Sacred Heart Cathedral, Yokohama

Sacred Heart Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Church Diocese of Yokohama, Japan. The Yokohama diocese includes, Kanagawa Prefecture, Shizuoka Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, & Yamanashi Prefecture. It is located at 44 Yamate, Naka-ku. In Japan, the church is more commonly known as Yamate Catholic Church (カトリック山手教会 Katorikku Yamate Kyōkai?).
The original Yamate Catholic Church was built at 44 Bluff (Yamate) in 1906. It was a brick building with 2 bell towers. However, the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake completely destroyed the original church structure. The present Yamate Catholic Church, which is a reconstruction of the original church, was completed in 1933.
