Sachin Nag was one of the top swimmers in Indian history. He was the first person to win a gold medal in swimming (Free style 100m) in the first ever 1951 Asian Games held at New Delhi in 1951.

After winning the medal he joined the Calcutta Swim Club where he started as a swimming trainer. Aarti Saha, the First Indian woman to cross the English Channel, was spotted and trained by him. Among others were Nafeesa Ali, who was his student. He also appeared in a Bengali Movie named Foni. He died in the late 1980s. There is a Block named after him at Asiad Village in New Delhi. At present his medal from the 1951 Asian Games is in Patiala, Punjab at the National Sports Museum.
