Sac Actun

Sistema Sac Actun is an underwater cave system situated along the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, within the state of Quintana Roo, the Municipalidad de Solidaridad, and north of the town of Tulum.

In early 2007, the cave system Nohoch Nah Chich was connected into and subsumed into Sac Actun making it the longest underwater cave system in the world for some months. Sac Actun currently measures 155 km and is presently second only to Sistema Ox Bel Ha at 170 km (all values per 2007-11-18 update of the Quintana Roo Speleological Survey (QRSS). These two cave systems since early 2007 have been frequently exchanging the title as the longest underwater cave system in the world.
