Mohamed Sabry Hassouna was born in Cairo, Egypt on November 13th, 1972. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. In June 1995, he joined the Computer & Systems department, faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, as a staff member, where he worked as a teaching assistant (1995-2001). In 2006, he received his PhD degree in Computer Vision, from the Computer Vision and Image Processing laboratory (CVIP), Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. His current research focuses on PDE based medical image analysis and processing, numerical and level set methods, and virtual colonoscopy, on which he had authored more than 20 technical articles (DBLP server) in major peer-reviewed conferences and journals such as (ICCV, CVPR, IPMI, ICIP, MICCAI, TPAMI, and MEDIA), and filed 2 U.S. patent applications on shape representation using curve skeletons and fly-over visualization for colonoscopy. He had been awarded the outstanding ECE graduate student and the Dean's citation awards from the University of Louisville, outstanding CVIP Lab graduated PhD student award for 2006, Excellence in visualization award from Silicon Graphics, and best innovation award on how to invest $6 billions on technology from Microsoft. He was the recipient of Research! Louisville award in medical imaging in 2003 and 2005.
