Talk:Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Please confirm and change the number of students part. As far as I know, Tshung Tsin doesn't have more than 2500 students. Kristalyamaki 16:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Can anyone provide a decent translation for the school motto? The one in English right now is just... wrong...Habvc 11:44, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think that there is a problem with the translation, because it was directly translated from Chinese which originally is "进步中求进步", and there is no official translated English motto as far as I can see. Refer to the website. STTSS_Motto. Kristalyamaki 17:13, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lack of references
I've added a reference box to this article. There are a lot of unverified statements which really need to be supported by reliable references. As an English-language encyclopaedia it is recommended that most references should also be to English language sources. Currently the sole reference and all three external links point to pages in Chinese. Dahliarose 08:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- The specific policy is Wikipedia:Attribution#Language. Sources should be in English when possible, but non-English ones are acceptable if no English language sources are available. That all the sources seem to be from the school itself could be an additional problem. It's not my area of interest, but consider looking at some of these English language articles, not from the school, for better sources: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Here is a Google search on the DailyExpress site: [7] --AnonEMouse (squeak) 19:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

- The articles shown in the Daily Express website isn't helping out much as sources. Quite a few sources such as the academic results can be found in printed media (local newspapers, I will try my best to find the actual dates and names of newspapers, English if possible). Other sections such as "Building and Facilities" or "Annual Events" do not need sources at all. As for the one and only Chinese reference for the history part, that is indeed the only source of history which I can find in the internet when I started to write the article. I'll see if they are any printed sources.
Nevertheless, thanks for the effort on searching for sources for reference! Kristalyamaki 10:27, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notability tag
it's a secondary school, right? I don't see how any secondary school is of encyclopedic notability, except if it was maybe founded in the 16th century or something. I see no reason why not mention this school, and any others, in one or two sentences in a central Secondary schools of Malaysia article. I realize the same might be said of any other article on secondary (or primary!!) schools on Wikipedia. I say {{merge}} them all into regional summaries. But the insane detail of this article really takes the "school" nonsense on Wikipedia to new lows :( dab (𒁳) 10:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Please elaborate on which part do you think is "insane" and which part of it are "nonsense". On other stuffs, I have left a reply at your talk page. Thank you. Kristalyamaki 12:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Source citing & copyediting box removal
I removed the two boxes. Feel free to re-add them if you think that the article is still lacking sources or still has grammar problems. Thank you Kristalyamaki 12:02, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Copyedit goes back on. I feel that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done with regards to that, although it would be the least of this article's problems if it gets deleted... Chan Yin Keen | Talk 16:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that the copy edit box should remain. I think the notability box can be removed. I've started to re-organise the article putting the important sections at the beginning. I've made a start tidying up the history section but there is a lot more work still to be done. There is currently far too much emphasis on current events. The annual events section is far too long and of very little interest to anyone outside the school. You should concentrate on what makes the school special. We really don't need to know about trivial details such as school toilets for instance! Dahliarose 20:28, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

- The the copyedit box shall stay for the time being in that case. I've removed the notability box after leaving a message at [8]. There is indeed a lot more to do. Erm... I'll remove the trivial part of the toilet. x_x Kristalyamaki 08:58, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] School Fees
Is it really necessary to talk about school fees? I was staring at it for a while and was wondering if that section is of any worth. Like whether the fees are worth noting for being substantially higher or lower than the average public school in Malaysia? Chan Yin Keen | Talk 12:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- For your information, students that go to normal government secondary schools in Malaysia here do not need to pay school fees at all, if not paying them once a year at a much lower rate (eg. Students in Tshung Tsin have to pay around RM200 a month, while students in government schools only have to pay around RM20 a year). I think the information is much needed. Kristalyamaki 09:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- If thats the case presumably it should be mentioned as such because it doesn't seem to have context without comparison. Chan Yin Keen | Talk 10:40, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think it should be understood as most of those who would look up to articles like such might be parents or those who want to enrol into the school who know the comparism with the school and public schools. I think informating them about the school fees of the school should suffice. There's no need to mention the comparism, in my opinion...... but, in anyways, I'll just go add the comparisms. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Maingate tshungtsin.jpg
Image:Maingate tshungtsin.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] English clean up
Some typos (unfamiliarity with foreign terms used in English) and widespread use of the future tense, where English uses the present tense has been corrected. Chasnor15 (talk) 08:57, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
