[edit] Image tagging for Image:Stairtex.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Stairtex.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Stairs-WGSG-CD.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Stairs-WGSG-CD.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 03:24, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sea Shepherd
Thank you for your recent help by contributing to the Sea Shepherd page. I notice that you're a relatively infrequent Wikipedia contributor, so I'll also leave this standard template message to point you to some information that will help you continue to improve Wikipedia. Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
- Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as: copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such unreasonable information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, and will result in your account being blocked.
The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!
[edit] Hi
Sancho McCann - thanks for your note to me. I AM new here, and I do not plan on being a regular contributor. There are a lot more intelligent people here than I could ever hope to be that are doing a marvelous job. I wonder if you might be able to give me more detailed criticism of my work here please. I don't know whether you have left the note because there are some problems with what I've added, or whether your note is a generic one that most 'new' contributors get. Steve Cooke
- Hi Steve, No, my note wasn't prompted by anything specific that I thought you needed improvement on. I just thought perhaps your low contribution number might have been from unfamiliarity with everything. But if you'd still like a little more detailed criticism, I'd be glad to take a look at your previous contributions. Sancho McCann 17:05, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

- Hi Sancho. I do not plan on making regular contributions - just from time to time on subjects I know a little about. The information you sent me is very helpful, and I'll use it in the future. Thank you for your support.
[edit] Imaginary Records
Thanks for the improvements you made to Imaginary Records (and related pages). I thought you might be interested in this site - there's an Imaginary Records discography on there, with quite a few scans of record covers. Might be useful in expanding the page further... [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Stairs-WGSG-V.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Stairs-WGSG-V.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

[edit] Epicure
The chronology that you provide should relate to that specific type i.e albums should only list previous & next albums (it should include singles or other releases) - similarly the chronology for singles should only list the previous and next singles (not list albums or other releases) Dan arndt 09:02, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Um, not entirely sure what you mean by "albums should only list previous & next albums (it should include singles or other releases)". However, I get the drift from the rest of your comment. Fair enough. I believe Wikipedia is a free-to-edit, collaborative effort. If I have broken a convention I apologise. You are free to edit at your will. I won't be contributing anymore as others obviously have a much better grasp of the culture and norms.
- Just on the matter of "chronology" - a chronology indicates a timeline, a series, or sequence, of events indexed by time. They are typically ordered, usually from earliest to latest. If this is an acceptable definition, then I cannot see why the chronology should not contain ALL releases by an artist, rather than just one type of release. Sa cooke 13:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

- Hey don't get discouraged - I am still learning all some of the conventions if you want an idea try looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums which should give you an idea on how to format articles on band's albums. Keep up the contributions - and if you need any help there are plenty of people out there that can help you with formats & layouts - as I found out the hard way myself ... I have tagged Image:New_Official_Logo_of_Tasmania.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Intercooler.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Intercooler.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 15:58, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] February 2008
Please stop. If you continue to blank out or delete portions of page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did to User:East718, you will be blocked from editing. Can you please explain your actions? GlassCobra 07:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes. I had written to the owner of the so-called 'copyright' material - namely the band the image represented, asking them if they would be willing to relinquish copyright over the image in question, or, failing that, whether they could provide a copyright free photo that would be used on Wikipedia. In the meantime however, some fucker deleted the image from Wikipedia. I see no difference in what that person did and what I did...
-
- What you did counts as vandalism. Revenge is not a good motivator, nor does it help your case. You are welcome to re-upload your picture as long as you have the correct copyright information; however, please do not vandalize again. Thanks. GlassCobra 07:21, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- No. The person who deleted the page needs to restore it. I do not have the image - I deleted it from my system knowing it was on Wikipedia. When I get a reply from the copyright holder I'll post it to the image page. Thanks. Oh, and on the matter of vandalism, I view what happened to the image page to also be vandalism - I trust that similar warnings etc have been sent to the person who DELETED the page in question. Thanks.
-
- The user that deleted your image is a trusted administrator, and was in fact doing his duty; your image was licensed incorrectly. It was not intended to be an insult to you, and it was most certainly not vandalism. As I said, revenge is not a good motivator, and you should not disrupt things just to make a point. Furthermore, after discussion with other administrators, your image was deemed unfit for use here as it depicts a currently performing band. More often than not, there are free images that can be used as alternatives; in this case, one has indeed been found, as you know. It has been uploaded and added to the article. I will ask you again to please refrain from vandalizing user pages in the future. Thanks. GlassCobra 07:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- You should look to who you allow to be 'trusted administrators'. If the sort of decision that your 'trusted administrator' made to simply delete a page without the opportunity for me to reply, were made in the real world (as opposed to this anonymous virtual world, where people hide behind ridiculous pseudonyms) that person would be a lot more accountable for their actions. It looks like I have NO ability to get my case heard unless I do something drastic to get the attention of these so-called 'trusted administrators. Really, your judgment leaves a lot to be desired... And another point - 'Wikipedia is based upon collaborative, good faith editing, and consensus'. Please note the word 'consensus' here. Surely 'consensus' in this context includes talking with the person who created the page content??? So it looks as if it is ok for consensus in some cases but not others. Fuck! I'm surprised Wikipedia gets any contributors at all! Sa cooke (talk) 07:49, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- As I said, the administrator was merely doing his duty and abiding by the rules set out by Wikipedia regarding non-free content. Please see Wikipedia:FU#Policy_2; namely the first criteria. Non-free content is only to be used if no free equivalent can be found; this has been determined to not be the case. As I said previously, the deletion was not any sort of personal attack on you, yet you seem to be determined to make it so. I will again state that disrupting things just to make a point is not acceptable, and would also ask that you refrain from calling into question my judgment and the judgment of the community at large. I am well aware of the importance of consensus, and would ask you to look at the section just above this one, #Replaceable fair use Image:Intercooler.jpg. You were very clearly notified that you had a specific time limit in which to improve the image, and also where to go if you had any questions. If you have further issues regarding administrative action, you are more than welcome to bring it up at the adminstrators' incidents noticeboard; however, do not blank any more pages. Thanks. GlassCobra 08:08, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- 48 hours!? That qualifies as 'consensus'? You have to be kidding... Some of us do real work - we do not have time to be constantly checking back to see what has transpired with pages that were created in good faith. As I said, I had attempted to get copyright approval from the image owner. 48 hours is NOT consensus, or anything like it!Sa cooke (talk) 08:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- "Real work"? I would ask that you refrain from being condescending; I too have real life commitments, but I consider this quite important. The time limit for non-free images is somewhat short because our copyright policy is very stringent; Wikipedia only uses non-free content when absolutely necessary. Perhaps it was not wise to remove the image from your hard drive once it was uploaded? GlassCobra 08:23, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- And, if you happen to get the copyright approval after 48 hours, the image could have been undeleted by me or East and sort it out. In this case, I found a replacement so no emails are required. I too work on the image copyright issues and this issue comes up fairly often. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I found a replacement for the image and it is freely licensed. It is on Wikipedia now, so whatever issues East had with the previous image do not exist for this one. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 07:32, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Wonderful!!! Thank you!Sa cooke (talk) 07:35, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- And, while GlassCobra was typing his messages, I already placed the photo in the article. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 07:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
