Saša Petricic

Saša Petricic is a Canadian journalist. He is currently a correspondent and videojournalist for CBC Television's The National. He is based in Ottawa but has filed news stories and documentaries from every continent during his career. He covered the 2004 Tsunami from Thailand and Indonesia, the aftermath of the Rwanda genocide, Fidel Castro in Cuba and issues surrounding climate change in Australia. He has also reported on the war in Afghanistan. In 2007, he was the first CBC journalist to visit and cover Antarctica, spending time aboard the Argentinian icebreaker Almirante Irizar, as well as visiting numerous scientific bases. As a videojournalist, he reports, writes, shoots and edits his own stories and documentaries, bringing a unique visual style and personal perspective.
From 1993 to 2001, Petricic covered federal politics and political issues from the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.
He also has contributed to BBC News and CNN.
Petricic was born in 1968 and studied at Hope College in Michigan and at the University of Quebec. He earned a journalism degree with combined honours in Soviet and East European Studies from Carleton University.
Petricic won the 1999 Canadian Association of Journalists Award for Investigative Journalism and the 2005 Canadian Radio and Television News DIrectors' Association Award for his work in Rwanda.
