Hmm... I think the initials in his name come in the middle, no? Etale 20:36, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

The question of where to place his initials is a confusing one indeed. Varadhan's home page has it as S.R.Srinivasa, as it shows here, and surely he himself knows it best? But still the Abel Prize has it down as Srinivasa S.R., presumably not without reason. Looking for his own papers at Mathematical Reviews, I see both S.R.S, Srinivasa R.S., Srinivasa S.R., and S.R. Srinivasa (and also just S. and just Srinivasa). (There is also a Varadhan, Sowmini, but that seems to be a different person. Math Review staff tend to be pretty good at identifying when different names belong to the same person.) I don't know what to think about the whole thing, but maybe someone familiar with Indian culture could? Perhaps they just aren't so particular about the order of names when someone has mulitple given name. Hanche 17:36, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
