Justice S. R. Nayak (1st January 1945-) was elevated as a Judge of High Court of Karnataka state, India on 24th February, 1994 and subsequently he was sworn in as Judge of High Court of Andhra Pradesh state, India on 21st March, 1994. He was re-transferred to Karnataka High Court and he was sworn in as a Judge of Karnataka High Court on 2nd January, 2003. He was the acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court from 20th October, 2004 to 19th November, 2004.
Mr. Nayak assumed charge of the office of the Hon’ble the Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh state, India at Bilaspur on 17th Nov,2005. He retired on December 31, 2007.

The Hon'ble Justice Subray Rama Nayak a Nadavara was born on 1st January, 1945 in Naadumaskeri village of Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka State in an agriculturists and freedom fighters’ family. His mother Nagamma Rama Nayak and father Rama Ranga Nayak were imprisoned by the British Government for having participated in Quit India Movement, a part of Freedom Struggle of India.
He did his primary education in his native place; High School Education in Janata Vidyalaya, Dandeli of Uttara Kannada District. He did his B.Sc. degree in Natural Sciences in Yuvaraja College, a University College of Mysore University. He did his LL.B., and LL.M., (Administrative Law and Industrial Law) from Bangalore University.

Justice Nayak mainly practiced in the High Court of Karnataka till his elevation to the Bench on 25the February, 1994 and subsequently he was sworn in as Judge of High Court of Andhra Pradesh state, India on 21st March, 1994. He was re-transferred to Karnataka High Court and he was sworn in as a Judge of Karnataka High Court on 2nd January, 2003. He was the acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court from 20th October, 2004 to 19th November, 2004.
Mr. Nayak assumed charge of the office of the Hon’ble the Chief Justice of High Court of Chhattisgarh state, India at Bilaspur on 17th Nov,2005. He retired from Chhattisgarh state High court on December 31, 2007.
He was also a part-time Professor of Law from 1975 till he was elevated to the Bench; He taught subjects of “Jurisprudence and Legal Theories, Industrial Law and Labour Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Law of Contracts” in B.M.S. Collage of Law and S.L.S.R.C. Havanur College of Law.
Mr. Nayak has married Shalini Kavri from Devarbhavi village Kumta and they are blessed with two children. Justice S.R.Nayak, and his wife are deeply spiritual and they are blessed by the Great seer Sri Guru Sadanand Maharaj.
Justice Subray R. Nayak after retirement is heading as a Chair of a three-member Human Rights Commission for Karnataka, a newly formed wing of the Karnataka Govermnet.
