A lot of people are putting a lot of stock on Soviet records when deciding about the truth of the story of the "Long Walk" I think people are forgeting many important facts about the Soviets with regard to the Poles. The Soviet Union is every bit as responsible for the outbreak of WW.II as Germany was. One must remember that the Soviets murdered 15,000 Polish officers and denied this atrocitie for decades until Mikhail Gorbachov. Then they held up their drive into Warsaw unntil the Germans had the chance to kill as many of the Polish underground as posibile. The Soviets desperatly tried to hide their atrocities against the Poles. So I don't think Soviet records can be trusted on any count. Remember this was a country that lied about everything and those who worked for the state had to lie about much in order to protect themselves. I just think these facts should be kept in mind.
