Sørøysund

Sørøysund is a former municipality in Finnmark, Norway. The municipality was separated from the city of Hammerfest January 1, 1852, and until January 1, 1919 the municipality was named Hammerfest landsogn ('the rural district of Hammerfest').
Kvalsund was separated from Sørøysund July 1, 1869 - and the rest of Sørøysund was again merged with Hammerfest January 1, 1992.
The name is taken from the sound of the same name between the islands of Sørøya and Kvaløya.
