Sæglópur (Icelandic for "lost at sea") is a song by Sigur Rós, released in 2006 as a single from the 2005 album Takk.... While the vocals towards the end of the song are in Icelandic, this song is almost entirely sung in Hopelandic, a "language" of nonsense words selected by the band that sound similar to Icelandic. This song was featured in the British documentary I'm a Child Anorexic and in an episode of Top Gear.

[edit] Music video

The music video for the song track depicts the drowning of a young child, who is, towards the end of the video, rescued and, as in the Glósóli video, whether the child survives is left for the viewer to decide.

[edit] Release history

Sæglópur was released three times in different formats

  • Prior to the release of Takk... the song was made available as a download only single on the North-American iTunes store (2005). Glósóli was made available simultaneously on the European iTunes store.
  • Japan Tour EP (2006). An enhanced CD, containing the Glósóli and Hoppípolla videos.
  • CD/DVD double pack single (2006). The DVD featured the Glósóli, Hoppípolla and Sæglópur videos
