São Mateus (Portuguese for Saint Matthew) is a parish (Freguesia) in the district of Madalena on the Island of Pico in the southern part of the Azores. The population in 2001 is 847, its density is 17.74/km² and the area is 47.7 km². The location is on the southwestern part of the island. Much of the area are mountainous. The Atlantic Ocean is bounded in the south.

The parish is located in the southwestern part of the municipality and is linked with a road encircling the entire island. The area are hilly and mountainous in the northeast. Farmlands are within the parish as well as the road. Forests dominates the mountain areas. The Atlantic Ocean lies to the southwest. The Azores' tallest mountain, Mount Pico is to the northeast.
The municipality is around 4 km long from north to south and east to west but varies northward.
