[edit] Location of Issuance and History

Although the S & H Green Stamps may have been invented and widely circulated in the USA, I beleve they were also circulated in CANADA as well, and the merchants that were participating were grocers and dry goods stores in the 1960's and the 1970's.

The practice in ONTARIO CANADA, went by the wayside when the Provincial(State) Gov't required that users of coupons and redemption systems had to pay TAXES on the merchandise redeemed, and the Retailers no longer found it beneficial to have the loyalty program running.

--refer to Ontario Retail sales tax Bulletin #511 in discussion for "CTM" [Canadian_Tire_Money]

The program of "Canadian Tire" style "Money" coupons were introduced by other petroleum producers such as Pioneer Petroleums, but they have been replaced by an Affinity "Card" based mechanisim.

Yes, they were in Canada. I remember the store on St. Clair 2 blocks from Bathurst and licking the stamps and putting them in the books.
