Ryu (full name Ryusaku, surname unknown) is a fictional character in the manga, Akira, and the adapted 1988 anime movie of that work, also called Akira.

[edit] Character Description

Generally seen with Kei, Ryu is a key member of a resistance group against the government. In the manga, it is stated that he is Kei's older brother, though this is never mentioned in the film. Ryu also answers directly to Nezu, another important figure in the group.

[edit] Ryusaku in the Film

In the film, Ryu (known as Roy in the English dub), along with Kei, Kaneda, Shimazaki, and another resistance member, attempt to capture Tetsuo Shima, by infiltrating the facility he is stored at. The plan fails, resulting in the deaths of Shimazaki and the other member, and the capture of Kaneda and Kei.

A wounded Ryu goes to report this to Nezu, who had been attempting to escape arrest. An enraged and paranoid Nezu then shoots Ryu in the stomach. Ryu survives long enough to see Nezu die of a heart attack and Neo-Tokyo in unrest, before succumbing to the bullet wound.
