[edit] Character outline

Ryohei is Kyoko's older brother, and is obsessed with boxing. He even barged into a zoo, expecting to fight a bear, but instead ends up fighting a lion.

He wants to recruit Tsuna to the boxing club and in response, Reborn wants to recruit him into the family. Every time he sees Tsuna and his family doing something strange, he gets fired up and always wants to be a part of it, though appears to be unaware that it is Mafia-related.

Ryohei is always hiding the truth of what he is doing from Kyoko due to an incident that happened when they were still in primary school. Some high school students who did not like Ryohei used Kyoko to lure him into a trap. In his attempt to rescue her, he suffered severe head injuries, which resulted in the scar on his left temple. Kyoko still feels responsible for this incident.

He has a short memory and forgets many important details. In the future, he solves this by writing messages down. He and Gokudera have a small rivalry in which they use unimaginative names like 'Turf head' and 'Octopus head' to express dislike for each other's hair styles.

Ever since he fought the adult I-Pin, he gained a slight crush on her.

[edit] Abilities

Ryohei is said to have been born with naturally strong muscles, possessing greater strength than the average human being.[1] However, he cannot always exert his force to 100%; in his battle with Lussuria, he needed Kyoko's encouragement in order to fully use his power.[2]

Ryohei is an excellent boxer and is always 'extreme' whenever he fights. Having trained as a boxer he is quite proficient in hand to hand combat and is able to take and give a huge amount of physical punishment. He is the third to take the Dying Will Shot, but it has no effect on him since he always lives "to the limit (extreme)", and therefore in Dying Will Mode constantly.

In the future, Ryohei has improved greatly in his ability to box. He also learns Lussuria's footwork techniques in order to gain the ability to move at greater speeds.[3] He also carries an animal box with him, but it is only a backup box, since he relies on his own physical strengths.[4] He is also able to quickly heal himself from drastic wounds using the characteristics of his flame.

[edit] Plot overview

Ryohei is introduced when he attempts to get Tsuna to join the boxing club. At the same time, Reborn attempts to get him to join Tsuna's family. He believes this is 'extreme' and goes along with it.

Since Ryohei is ranked as Namimori Junior High's fifth strongest, he is targeted by the Kokuyo Gang and after his battle with Ken, has five of his teeth pulled out,[5] along with being hospitalized.[6][7]

Ryohei is later entrusted with the Ring of the Sun and learns new techniques during his training with his tutor, Colonnello. He wins the first match of the Vongola Tournament, defeating Lussuria with the skill "Maximum Cannon", which breaks Lussuria's leg and the metal plate on his knee.[2] During the Sky battle, he saves Chrome, Yamamoto and Gokudera from Mammon by destroying the whole gym with his Maximum Cannon. He also saves Lussuria despite him being an enemy.

[edit] In the future

In the future, an adult Ryohei has gone overseas to work. After finding Chrome, he brings her to Tsuna's hideout, along with information he retrieved from the Varia concerning their plan to attack the Millefiore Family's base. Apparently, he was sent to Italy by the future Tsuna in order to deliver a certain message to the Varia.[8] He also gives I-Pin a doll of her master.

During their siege of the Millefiore base, it is revealed that his yellow Dying Will Flame can increase a person's healing capabilities when used with a special box, enabling the person to heal almost instantly and without pain. Later, during his battle against Millefiore member Baishana outside of Irie's research lab, Ryohei activates an animal-type, sun attribute box, which releases a scarred and bandaged kangaroo named "Kangaryū " (漢我流? lit. "my way of honor"). Kangaryū is a backup-type support box and it fires Dying Will boxing gloves, a pair of Sereno Gloves, for Ryohei to use in battle.[4] He is able to fend off the opponent's box weapon, which takes the form of a massive snake, with just his fists.[3] The reason for this is that his Sereno Gloves are weaved from special plants that multiply healing capabilities; that, combined Kangaryū's ability to charge objects with the Sun's activation power allows the gloves to reach an extremely high level of cell regeneration, instantly healing Ryohei's fists when damaged. When Ryohei is then bombarded by the enemy's Dying Will stag beetles, Kangaryū reveals that she can also create a pair of boots, and by using the flames as boosters, Ryohei gains the ability to fly.[9] He then uses Maximum Ingram ("Ingram" is a type of machine gun), which is a technique similar to his Maximum Cannon, except it deals multiple blows at once, to defeat Baishana.[10]

Right after the rooms of the entire Millefiore base are rearranged by Shoichi Irie, Ryohei and Gokudera encounter Gamma. Ryohei battles Gamma despite knowing that his activation powers are useless against the latter's Thunder attribute, and is thus defeated by the latter's abilities. However by knocking Gokudrea's cat towards Kangaryu's pouch Uri increaced in size due to the suns activation.[11]
