Ryfast is a planned sub-sea tunnel between Stavanger and Strand in Norway.
Approximately NOK 5 000 000 000 (USD 830 000 000)[citation needed] is planned to be spent on a sub-sea tunnel from Stavanger to Solbakk between Tau and Jørpeland in the municipality of Strand. The target is a part of the Norwegian main land but without road connection to the rest of the world. Access to the national road network is granted through three different state subsidised ferry connections where Tau-Stavanger is the most significant.
The total permanent population benefiting from this is in the order of 25 000 - 30 000. Because of the high per capita cost, an alternative bridge crossing across Høgsfjord between Forsand and Lauvik has been proposed, but despite a cost of a quarter of Ryfast or less[citation needed], this has not caught any momentum in Stavanger.[citation needed]
