User:Ryan Postlethwaite/Guidance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page is for requesting guidance from admins as to how to deal with usernames which may be inappropriate under Wikipedia's username policy, which differs from rules about other forms of self-expression on Wikipedia. Before listing a username here, consider if it should be more appropriately reported elsewhere:
- For blatantly inappropriate usernames, such as usernames that are obscene or inflammatory, post to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism.
- To discuss the behavior of a user not directly related to their username, such as vandalism, personal attacks or other urgent issues, try Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
- For policy debates and suggestions regarding the Wikipedia:Username policy, try Wikipedia talk:Username policy.
- If you are sure the username violates policy try expressing your concern, civilly, on the user's talk page instead.
- Make sure that the user in question has not already been blocked prior to bringing their username here.
- If you wish to contest or question the blocking of a user by an admin, please do not post the issue here. Instead, discuss the block with the blocking administrator or with other administrators.
There is no need to tell the user in question you have a concern about their username until an admin has given guidance.
Tools: Special:Listusers, Special:Ipblocklist
To file a request for guidance use the template {{subst:UsernameGuidance|Username in question}} *Reason you believe the username violates the policy ~~~~, an administrator will either tell you to discuss the username with the user, you can do this by using the {{UsernameConcern}} template, if this leads to no response, or the user wishes to have further input into their name, please post the username at WP:RFC/NAME, or the administrator will tell you there is no violation, which means no further action is required.
