Talk:Ryan Mac Donald

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi xtreme I am the chairman of the NH USPF chapter and I strongly feel this article is wiki worthy because this record has stood for 6 years and powerlifting and bodybuilding should not be discriminated against on wikipedia. This information is verifiable (see neutral link provided) and and contributes because Ryan is slated to break the National Record in August.

  • First of all since you are the chairman you do hold a bit of a bias as you would believe that articles about things related to the NH USPF should be there. Second the amount of format errors makes it impossible to realize there is even a link there and thirdly for it to be notable it should have more than one source than is actually reliable and not just a yahoo page made by someone as this isn't reliable enough to warrant notability. I noticed the formatting errors and will clean up promptly. I dispute the fact that the chair is biased, if the article was created by the individual that is one issue, but this is a big deal to those interested in Powerlifting, not just in NH but nationwide. WIth all due respect it seems like articles of this nature are discriminated against on wikipedia, and that needs to stop. If the article was on gaming, would you be so quick to doubt the validity of this article and how it contributes to a segment of the population? I submit that its existence is valid, and by starting an article here, others with information on those competing at the professional level of the sport may enjoy its contents and add to it.

Currently California is the only USPF chapter that I know of that has a domain name and site dedicated to USPF records. But then again, anyone could go to go daddy and buy a domain that says uspf records or something similar and claim to be an "official" site. Nonetheless these are the official records, and that can be verified through the USPF.

  • If an article appears to have no notable sources or any reason of notability no matter if it's about video games or weight lifting I would treat it the same way. Now if your saying I discriminate against articles about certain types of things like weight-lifting you are severely wrong. My main interest is to keep Wikipedia clean of articles of nonsense and articles that have no real proof of notability and since the article appeared in the beginning to have no proof of notability the speedy deletion tag was added. After reviewing the source that was noticed after you fixed formatting errors and the USPF site I have determined you have met notability requirements and I will remove the tag. Also I will format the article to help it better meet Wikipedia standards. I might suggest requesting adoption if you would like to learn how to format articles properly. I must admit I'm unsure what requesting adoption means but if it involves proper understanding of proper wikipedia format and etiquette then I would jump at the opportunity. I must admit that my gaming comment was argumentative, and I would like to apologize. I understand the importance of a vigiliant watch on the integrity of wikipedia.
