Ryan McDonagh (born June 13, 1989 in Arden Hills, Minnesota) is an amateur ice hockey defenceman currently playing for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He attended Cretin-Derham Hall high school in St. Paul, Minnesota, there he helped lead his team to a state championship as a junior. The following season he was awarded the 2007 Minnesota Mr. Hockey[1] award, which is given annually to the top senior high school hockey player in the state. He was drafted in the first round, 12th overall by the Montreal Canadiens on June 22, 2007 in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
His uncle is former NFL QB Steve Walsh.
