[edit] Minor Leagues

After attending Moses Lake High School Doumit was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 1999 draft. His second season with the system earned him All Star honors in the New York-Penn League, a feat he would repeat in 2003 with the Carolina League.[1] Doumit would continue to work his way up the Pirates organization until his first major league start during the 2005 season.

[edit] Major Leagues

The Pirates would first call up Doumit as a designated hitter for interleague play in the 2005 season, as the National League does not regularly use the designated hitter.[2] Doumit made his first start on June 5, 2005 in a game against the Atlanta Braves. He would finish the rest of the season with the Pirates filling various roles.

Injuries hampered Doumit for the next two seasons as he took at least three separate trips to the disabled list, each time being sent back to the minors for rehab. When healthy his versatility allowed him to keep finding starts in the lineup. In the 2007 season Doumit would appear 33 times in right field, 28 times as catcher, and twice at first base.[3]

As of the 2008 season Ryan Doumit is sharing time with Ronny Paulino in the catcher role on a matchup basis.[4]
