Ryan Anthony

Ryan Anthony is a trumpet player, most notable for his performances as a member of Canadian Brass, has had his performances used in many broadcasts of major U.S. television networks.

He was born in 1970 in San Diego, California. He studied violin as a child until he finally began trumpet at age seven. His first instrument was his grandfather's old cornet and he performed "Amazing Grace" that Sunday at church.

Over the next ten years, Ryan would grow in his ability to a prodigious level. He won the General Motors/Seventeen magazine concerto competition at the age of 16. At age seventeen, he caught the attention of Canadian Brass players in a local workshop. He played right alongside Fred Mills on "Handful of Keys" by Fats Waller. Chuck Dallenbach, founder of the Canadian Brass, never forgot this moment as he recants on the CB website.

Ryan's solo in "Farewell" was also heard on the theme song to NBC's "Must See TV" in 1998.

After his education at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), he was awarded the trumpet professorship at Oberlin Conservatory, where he stayed until 2000.

In 2000, Ryan was offered an opportunity to play in the Canadian Brass. He set off on tour with them later that year. He played in the Brass for three years. During this time, he was awarded the alumni achievement award from the CIM. He then left the group to pursue a solo career and to spend more time with his family. He still performs with them occasionally, however, along with performances in other venues across the country. In 2005, he released his first official solo CD. Ryan presently serves as Acting Principal Trumpet for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
