[edit] Help needed
{{helpme}} How do I easily upload a new (slightly edited) version of an existing image, without having to go through the whole licencing rigamarole again? I thought there used to be an "upload new version" link on image pages. Thanks. Rwxrwxrwx 10:36, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Rwxrwxrwx, every time you upload a new image, even to upload a new version, you must select a licence and include a new summary. The only way to avoid retyping it all is to copy the old summary and licence. hope that helps, nat Alo! Salut! Sunt eu, un haiduc?!?! 10:45, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Prod removal on 2007 Jimbo Wales video
Hi, I notice that before you nominated the 2007 Jimbo Wales video article for afd you had marked it for deletion through the prod procedure. That's fine; but I also note that in the history of the article you told off the article creator for removing the prod template, telling him/her not to remove it again. This is just a courtesy note to say that article creators are allowed to remove prod templates if they contest the deletion. The only deletion templates they can't remove are speedy deletion tags or afd tags. Wikipedia has detailed policy on how it deals with deletions - you may wish to read up on the procedures and methods. B1atv 22:06, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I was a bit annoyed at the instant removal of the notice without discussion. Rwxrwxrwx 22:09, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
-
- Understood - but a creator doesn't have to discuss its reason for removal. And the creator could be equally annoyed that you prodded the article without discussion. It's the nature of Wikipedia. B1atv 22:24, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think "prodded the article without discussion" is right. I did give a reason in the tag. However I accept what you say about people being entitled to remove prod tags for any reason; it was the wrong tag to use. Rwxrwxrwx 22:31, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- If you don't mind, I'll also change the heading of this section so that it doesn't look like a disciplinary warning to me. Rwxrwxrwx 22:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Don't mind at all. B1atv 22:54, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Altn-logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Altn-logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:35, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Minimal-fvwm.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Minimal-fvwm.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- It's a screenshot of free software, so should really sport the "Free-screenshot" tag. However, it's not a great picture, so I'll be happy to see it die. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 18:13, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Speedies
Just FYI, notability really isn't a valid criteria for speedy deletion. You'd do better to prod articles you feel aren't notable - or just send them to afd. Thanks! -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 17:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Spicebird
I've declined the speedy tag you placed on Spicebird. The reason is:
- CSD A7 doesn't apply to software

- The picture is used in Template:User debian, which appears on 337 user pages. The licencing terms [1] say that "This logo or a modified version may be used by anyone to refer to the Debian project", so no claim of fair use is needed. Its use in any Debian-related content in Wikipedia is totally legitimate. However, it seems the Wikipedia rules dictate that any content that is not strictly free can't be used in templates. Ah well, at least I tried. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 09:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why?
Hi, I am slightly cofused to why you have placed the two tags on my article List of places in Avon.Especialy the deletion one as there is not alredy a list of places in the cerimonial county of Avon. Please explain. Thanks Dewster_^*'_ 21:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's just a suggestion. You can delete the delete tag if you don't agree. There is already a category called "Avon"; see Category:Avon. Simply putting all Avon-related pages into that category will save having to maintain a separate list page. Also, the tone of the article (asking people to improve the page, etc.) is not in accordance with Wikipedia style. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 21:31, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- ok , thanks i can see where your coming from but i dont think the page is in need of deletion. Cheers Dewster_^*'_ —Preceding comment was added at 21:34, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jellyfish
You changed Image:Schleiden-meduse-2.jpg making numbers clearer. Well done. But I didn't find anywhere what do these numbers exactly mean, however I found this picture (as orignally in Schleiden 's book [1]and as modified by you [2]) in four differents websites. Could you help writing explanations ? We need Schleiden's book where is the picture is from. Arno Lagrange ✉ 19:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

- I'm afraid I know nothing about the lifecycle of a jellyfish, or what the numbered stages represent. My aim was simply to make the existing numbers clearer. I hope some expert can come forward. Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 20:44, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Debian-logo-notext.svg
Hi Rwxrwxrwx!

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Debian-logo.svg
A tag has been placed on Image:Debian-logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. BJTalk 13:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
