My name is Ryan Woodsmall.
I am a Linux/Mac OS X/catchall Systems Administrator at the University of Missouri - Columbia.
I am interested in Computing as a whole, and Operating Systems, System programming, CRPG and Game programming specifically. I am also a fan of the NetBSD and Mach (kernel)-based operating systems on esoteric/non-standard (i.e., non-Personal computer) hardware. I suppose I like Wikipedia too.
Subjects I enjoy:
- Cycling (preferably on fixed and single-speed bikes)
- Playing Guitar, both acoustic and electric
- Heavy metal music, specifically Black metal and Death metal (er, Extreme metal), as well as Doom metal/Stoner metal/Sludge metal, Grindcore/Goregrind and some Post-metal (Jesu is my current fave, with Sleep and Electric Wizard in tight contention)
- Oh, Classic rock!
- Sundrop soda
- Norse mythology
- Horror fiction/Horror films (but I despise the "gore-ization" of horror)
- J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth/The Lord of the Rings
- (Some) Philosophy
- Buddhism
- Taoism
- Quantum mechanics
- Development of religion
I also practice Zazen daily and try to live life in a Zen way. I'm still learning about Buddhism, but it's absolutely beautiful/nothing special! Shunryu Suzuki's works are incredible, and the Buddha's got my back!
