Ruth Patterson

Ruth Patterson, OBE, was the first woman to be ordained to the ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1944. Her father, a native of County Donegal, was also a minister of the Presbyterian Church.

  • 1968: Assistant Presbyterian Chaplain at the Queen's University of Belfast.
  • 1976: First woman to be ordained a minister of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Served as assistant minister in Larne.
  • 1977: Minister of Kilmakee, Seymour Hill, Dunmurry.
  • 1991: Director of the Restoration Ministries, a non-denominational charitable trust at the forefront of promoting peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland.
