From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dvienadsat Apostolov ( Двенадцать Апостолов - twelve Apostles) was a pre-dreadnought battleship built for the Imperial Russian Navy. She served in the Black Sea Fleet and was built by Nikolayev Dockyard. Laid down in February 1888, launched in September 1890, she was commissioned in December 1892, and decommissioned in 1911 as a harbour training ship. She was brought out of reserve on the outbreak of World War I and served as a depot ship. She was captured by the Germans in 1918 and handed over to the Allies in December 1918. Transferred to the White Russians she was handed over to the Reds at the end of the Russian civil war. She was used as a dummy battleship during the film The Battleship Potemkin and was finally scrapped in 1931.
