In 2008, Russia held a National Final "Евровидение 2008" (Evrovidenie 2008) for the first time since 2005. The announcement was made during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 on December 8th, 2007, which is also shown on Russia TV Channel (RTR) in Russia.
The Russian National Final took place on March 9, 2008 with a total number of 27 songs competing. The winner was chosen by a combination of Televoting, SMS voting, Internet voting and the votes of a professional jury.
Russia TV (RTR) traditionally holds National Finals when it's in charge of selecting the Russian entry, as it was the case in 1994 and 1996. However, C1R, who has chosen the entries in 1995 and every year from 1997-2007, favours the 2005 internal selection method to only hold a National Final once - which actually led to Russia's worst position in the Televoting years. Requests to participate in the contest are adopted from 15 December 2007 to 1 February 2008.
