Russell Gilbrook (born in 1964) is the new drummer for the British progressive rock band Uriah Heep.
Over the last few years Russell Gilbrook has been establishing himself on the UK clinic tour scene and impressing many with his unique brand of performing and teaching. He has supported artists such as Greg Bissonette and completed a tour with Liberty Devito. Russell continually strives to push himself musically and has played in a remarkably diverse set of situations. He has worked/toured with the respected jazz artist Chris Barber and his band, and also Alan Price on whose album 'Liberty' Russell features, and of course filled the stool of the late great Cozy Powell in Bedlam (where he played with brothers Dave and Denny Ball, plus singer Frank Aiello). Russell has also played with ex-Camel keyboard player Pete Bardens and features on one of his albums.
Russell has also worked with Tony Iommi. His softer side is further demonstrated on work/tours with Lonnie Donegan, John Farnham plus the legendary Van Morrison.
Not content with just playing, Russell teaches on the "Musicians" channel on Sky and holds a position at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music; he has also published several teaching guides. Russell is regarded as one of the UK's finest drummers and clinicians and has demonstrated specialist drum clinics all over Europe.
For the last four years he has also drummed with the top Essex covers band Exposé with Dave Moore (vocals), Pete Finch (keyboards), Alan Montague (Bass) and Jamie Humphries (guitar). He can still be seen with them regularly when not touring with Uriah Heep.
Russell has co-designed with Marrell the kickbeaters that he plays. Russell uses and abuses Mapex Drums, a custom Marrell lightspeed snare and Bigfoot kickbeaters, Sabian Cymbals, Aquarian heads, and Regal Tip sticks.
