Ruperto Chapí (March 27, 1851 - March 25, 1909) was a Spanish composer of zarzuelas and one opera, Margarita la tornera.

He was born at Villena, Alicante, the son of a Valencian barber, and became, along with Tomás Bretón, one of the most popular authors of zarzuelas in his time. A specialist in the so-called zarzuela grande, he also wrote works, such as La revoltosa, in the género chico style. The prelude of his El tambor de granaderos has remained one of the favorite pieces of zarzuela audiences. He died in Madrid.
