[edit] Whither murloc?

Just wanted to thank you for your spirited defense of the Murloc article, which appeared to have attracted the hairy eyeball of one of the more...well, devoted...admins. I uncovered the deletion discussion and discovered that the vote was overwhelmingly "Keep," but the page is now missing. Did someone take matters into his/her own hands? DegreeAbsolute (talk) 16:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I think I've reconstructed the problem. Looks like Coren merged the content into a page which was thereafter deleted. DegreeAbsolute (talk) 16:42, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Kids on logo2.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Kids on logo2.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. [edit] Re: Question

The answer depends wholly on your interests. I don't think there's any prescriptive "food pyramid" to editing Wikipedia, you don't have to balance out one type of work with another. If you enjoy recent changes patrolling, or fixing spelling, or writing new articles - then go for it, I can guarantee that you'll never run out of things to do. If you're getting tired with one activity or another, try pushing yourself to learn something new. Wikipedia is an opportunity to brush up on just about any topic, as long as you are careful and double check your research. The one thing I'd suggest is not to focus too much on the maintenance side of the encyclopedia, lest such tedium drain you of any enthusiasm for the project. Aside from that, I don't think it matters to anyone but yourself how you split up your contributions. The only time others ever look at editing patterns and partitioning of total contributions is when they evaluate people for adminship or similar responsibilities. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 12:26, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I just figured out how to warn using Twinkle

Thanks for the Template anyways... are you an Administrator or a very helpful editor?

The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) 20:21, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

I'll go for the latter... by the way are you on the whitelist for the IRC MiszaBot? That way people know that your edits are real and you are a trusty user' The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) 20:27, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
On the some of the Wikipedia IRC channels, there are bots which show the recent changes, one in particular called MiszaBot, this bot basically makes it easier to sort out recent changes that are likely to be vandalism. So if a user in on the blacklist, they show up in red, and it means that Wikipedians are most likely to look at their reverts.
If you are not on a list at all then you are pink, which means the bot is unsure whether you are a good or bad user. Therefore, if you are on the white list, you are less likely to be looked at for your edits being vandalism... but don't think of any ideas if you want to be put on the list :) The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) 20:33, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
It is on the IRC channel: #cvn-wp-en. I have access to add you to the whitelist. Would you like me to do so?

[edit] Re: Question

Quite a few users have tried such projects in the past, with varying degrees of success. I'm not that into the signature/userpage design thing and there are better people to ask about starting a userspace project. Try The Transhumanist, he has a similar project over at User:The Transhumanist/User page design. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 19:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Question

A wikipedia project that serves as a place where users can get signatures, userboxes.... stuff like that, so they don't have to make it themselves or ask a specific user to do it. What do you think of that idea? RuneWiki777 22:43, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

This one sounds similar to the one you've suggested: Wikipedia:WikiProject User Page Help
The Transhumanist 22:47, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

We've got libraries of userboxes. See: Wikipedia:Userboxes#Gallery.

For signatures, just find one you like, cut and paste it, and change the letters and links so it's you.

Please describe your project idea in more detail, so I can point you to any pages on Wikipedia that already exist for the intended purposes. The Transhumanist 22:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] please consider changes

The principle of the procedure is that the Tc99m-sestamibi is absorbed retained at a greater rate in a hyperfunctioning parathyroid gland than in a normal parathyroid gland. This is dependent on several histologic features within the abnormal parathyroid gland itelf. Sestamibi imaging is correlated with the number and activity of the mitochondria within the parathyroid cells, such that oxyphil parathyroid adenomas have a very high avidity for sestamibi, while chief cell adenomas have some affinity but to a lesser degree, and clear cell parathyroid adenomas have almost no imaging quality at all with sestambi. Some researchers have also attempted to quantitate or characterize the imaging capabilities of parathyroid glands by the MDR gene expression. Approximately 60 percent of parathyroid adenomas may be imaged by sestamibi scanning. The natural distribution of etiologic causation for primary hyperparathyroidism is roughtly 80 85 % solitary adenomas, 12 % diffuse hyperplasia, 2 % multiple adenomas, and 1 % cancer. In patients with multiglandular or ectopic parathyroid disease, imaging is not as reliable. In addition, size limitation of the abnormal gland can limit the detection by radionuclide scanning. By using a gamma camera in nuclear medicine, the radiologist is able to determine if one of the four parathyroid glands is hyperfunctioning, if that is the cause of the hyperparathyroidism. Theoretically, the hyperfunctioning parathyroid gland will take upretain more of the Tc99m-sestamibi, and will show up 'brighter' than the other normal parathyroid glands on the gamma camera pictures, especially because of the internal biofeedback loop within the body with calcium inherently feeding back to calcium-receptors and inhibiting parathyroid hormone production within the normal parathyroid glands. Sometimes this determination is made 2 to four hours later when activity taken up by the thyroid and normal parathyroid glands fade away; the abnormal parathyroid gland retains its activity, while the radiopharmaceutical is eluted out of the normal thyroid gland. However, in patients with nodular goiter or functional tumors of the thyroid gland, increased retention of the sestamibi agent is possible and make parathyroid localization difficult or confusing.

By knowing which of the four parathyroid glands is hyperfunctioning, a surgeon is able to remove only the one parathyroid gland that is producing excessive amounts of parathyroid hormone and no longer under the biochemical control of the body, and leave the other 3 normal parathyroid glands in place. This operation is now termed a "minimally invasive parathyroidectomy", sometimes utilizing a radionuclear detection probe, and correlated with intra-operative parathyroid hormone level measurements. The remaining 3 glands are able to properly regulate serum calcium levels appropriately after the resolution of the hypercalcemia, as the calcium receptors lead to stimulation of parathyroid hormone secretion.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Seaofmonsters.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Seaofmonsters.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:02, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
