[edit] Finding sources
Seeing as how The Colbert Report recurring elements article was recently deleted for not having third party sources to verify the various gags, I think we should make some sort of effort to find sources for PTI gags. Keep an eye out for articles that mention PTI, even the Washington Post chat logs. ⇔ EntChickie 07:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Added a link from Deadspin about a drinking game using PTI's running gags. That should legitimize it a little more (including a link for Kornheiser's hair obsession. JAF1970 18:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Original research
I never understand this argument when applied to television shows. How else are we supposed to gather information than by watching them? Possibly reading recaps about them, but that would be a secondhand source. Should we just reference by each specific episode somehow? bmitchelf•T•F 00:05, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think the issue, per the AfD above, is that pages like this take information from the shows, and then synthesize them in a unique way which constitutes original research. If the show itself did an in-depth analysis of its own running gags, that would be kosher. Morgan Wick 22:07, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Penguin Dance
(note:[Date unknown year: 2007] In Huntsville, AL, a unnamed male, apparently with the initials N.V.F., attempted to popularize "the penguin dance" when shown on a local minor-league baseball team's jumbo-tron with some success, as it was shown on local station's sports highlights later that night).
The above is under the Penguin Dance section. I think it should be deleted, but thought I would check with everyone else first. Faithlessthewonderboy 22:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, can't believe that wasn't gone before. It's so dumb. bmitchelf•T•F 04:23, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for making the edit. Happy someone else is paying attention around here. :) Faithlessthewonderboy 08:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Possible Additions
I believe Freddy Adu was the first target of the "Greg Oden's Age" gag (or at least before Oden came along). Some mention could be made of that in the Oden section.
I think Tony's long-running (although apparently now expired) crush on Tonya Harding deserves mention as well.
Any story or comment relating to animals (horses, hunting, dogfighting) usually involves some joke about "the PETA people", whom Wilbon despises.
Not sure if this qualifies as a gag, but what about each host's alleged biases towards/against certain regions, teams and schools? Tony displays East Coast bias (specifically the northeast), is accused of only caring about teams with big-name stars, admires Notre Dame football ("the university of college football in America") and enjoys making fun of Northwestern. Wilbon takes pride in his "Midwestern sensibility", hates Notre Dame and Michigan (and any traditional college powerhouse that expects to be in perpetual title contention), and defends Northwestern by making fun of SUNY Binghamton
And finally, what about when they do a story about someone with only marginal notoriety and Tony says he's never heard of them, but he has heard of someone else famous with the same first name? For example, if they did a story about the Troy Williamson fine (to pick something out of today's headlines), Tony would say something like "I know Troy Aikman, I know Helen of Troy; no idea who Troy Williamson is." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.207.154.224 (talk) 00:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
