Runcorn Linnets F.C. are an English football club.
The club was formed in 2006 as a replacement for the town's previous club, Runcorn F.C. Halton, which resigned from the Northern Premier League due to financial difficulties. The original Runcorn club's biggest success had been winning the 1981-82 Football Conference (then Alliance Premier League) title, although they had failed to reach the Football League as the league's members had voted against them joining.
The new club joined the football league two levels further down the football pyramid, in the North West Counties Football League Division Two. A groundshare with Witton Albion was arranged at the start of the 2006/2007 season, until a suitable ground can be found in Runcorn.
The club was able to enlist the services of several players who had played for the old Runcorn club at a much higher level, including the returning management team of player/manager Steve Carragher and player/assistant Mark Philips, goalkeeper Robbie Holcroft and striker Thomas Lamb, instantly establishing itself as a title contender. Things started well for the new club with a 4–0 away win against Ashton Town, followed immediately by a 5–0 victory at home to Castleton Gabriels. Runcorn eventually finished its inaugural season as runner up, marginally losing out on the league title to Winsford United on goal difference (5 goals to be exact), but still winning promotion as a result of finishing second. Lamb finished the season as top scorer, with 22 goals in all competitions, and attracted interest from several professional clubs.
For 2007/08, the club is playing in the North West Counties Football League Division One. It will also be eligible to enter the FA Cup and FA Trophy competitions for the first time.
