[edit] Run the Road's Musical Implications
Run the Road served as an advertisement to the United States of the various, young, future stars currently performing in the grime scene. Artists such as Lady Sovereign, featured on the track "Cha Ching," despite having some recognition in Britain, still longs to gain success in the United States and become an international star.[1] Run the Road features some of the hungriest young stars of the UK and has been described as the "first real showcase of the UK's grime scene."[2] Run the Road masterfully mixes a series of different grime sounds and integrates them into one smooth bassline full of tantalizing lyrics, like Kano's "don't touch the microphone if you ain't reckking" on the track "Mic Fight." Despite the line's appeal on the surface underneath it displays a stronger message, the line shows both the desire to bring grime into the misogynistic, materialistic, blingy style of American hip-hop as Kano boasts and challenges all other MC's, but the Limey slang on the word "reckking," meaning recognizing, proves that grime is still a profoundly British sound. The struggle of acculturization and authenticity that all global hip-hop artists face when making music similar to American hip-hop is seen even at the top levels of grime, in Run the Road.
