Rumun Ndur (born July 7, 1975 in Zaria, Nigeria) is a Nigerian-born Canadian [1] professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Nottingham Panthers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League. He has played in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabres, the New York Rangers and the Atlanta Thrashers. Ndur is also the first Nigerian-born player ever to play in the NHL. He was born in Nigeria but grew up in Sarnia, Ontario and Hearst, Ontario.[2].
He was drafted by the Sabres in 1994 in the third round, 69th pick overall. He made his debut in the NHL in 1996–97 with the Sabres. In 1998–99 he was traded to the New York Rangers and just a year later he was traded to Atlanta and played 27 games with them during the 1999–00 NHL season. Since that season he has played in the minors.
He has played a total of 69 games in NHL. He scored 5 points (2 goals + 3 assists) with 137 penalty minutes.
Rumun captured the imagination of a section of the Coventry Blaze fanbase and had a small fan club of his own that travels to the majority of home games from the town of Banbury. However he played just two games of the 2007–08 season before suffering from a neck injury, ruling him out for the season. In May 2008, Ndur was released by Coventry. [3] Ndur went on to sign for the Nottingham Panthers.
