Rumsey & Son[1] is a British moving company based in Richmond-upon-Thames, Surrey. Founded in 1921 by Albert Edward Rumsey in Fulham, it began life as an upholstery business employing over 40 people. A few years later, the firm moved to Twickenham and the interest in removals begun as they were increasingly called on to deal with problems of transporting sofas, chairs and general furniture.
Eventually, the demand for removals grew to such an extent that he business discontinued its interest in upholstery and focused on removals and storage, full time. In those early days the first vehicle used by the business was a humble 'coster' barrow used to transport items of furniture from the shop through the streets of London.
Things are different today with the business now operating from two purpose built warehouses housing 650 storage containers, running a fleet of modern pantechnicon vehicles and employing 25 highly trained staff. The Aberdeen based moving company The Shore Porters Society[2] acquired the business in 1992.
