Rumphi is a district in the Northern Region of Malawi. The capital is Rumphi. The district covers an area of 4,769 km.² and has a population of 128,360.

Rumphi has produced some well known politicians like; Tom Chakufwa Chihana, who was the first Malawian to challenge Hastings Banda and he later became the president of one of the opposing parties; Dennis Nkhwazi, a former member of the cabinet and Kamlepo Kalua, president of an opposition party.
