Rukungiri District

Rukungiri is a district in western Uganda that is bordered by neighboring Kanungu, Kabale, Kisoro, Ntungamo and Bushenyi Districts. It is named after its chief town.
Two major ethnic groups in the district are the Bakiga and the Bahororo.
The climate is good for agriculture, but the district is overpopulated and is one of the poorest in the country.
The Parliamentary representative of this District is Major General Jim Muhwezi.[1]
The district was the birth place of Kizza Besigye who was a candidate for the Ugandan Presidency in 2001 and 2006.
