Admin?

I haven't taken the time to think about it yet. My initial reaction is to say, no. But I will have to think before I give my final answer. Like Bartles and Jaymes used to say, "Thank you, for your support." Dincher 23:16, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I have thunk and I have accepted the nomination. We'll see where it goes from here. Dincher 00:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

An award for you

Chief Black Hawk Certificate of Alliance
I IvoShandor bestow upon thee, Ruhrfisch, this certificate of alliance in the name of Sauk Chief Black Hawk. Your work on the Black Hawk War map has been irreplaceable, and you endless patience greatly appreciated. History owes you a thanks, and I do as well. Thank you. Thanks for the Welcome!

Thank you very much for the welcome page you gave me on my talk page. It really helped me.

  • I'm not a computer person, so all of this formatting stuff is very new to me.
  • I was wondering if you could check out my page and see if I did it correctly. I welcome any criticicm or advice you might be willing to share with me.

Thanks again. NatalieOne 17:06, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Old Loggers Path

I started Old Loggers Path. The Delaware state parks are almost finished. Haven't heard anything about the admin stuff. Dincher 00:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the DYK idea. I will wait until you expand it, you could go ahead and nominate it too if you wish. Do you have a pic of it? I have looked at the current RfA stuff. I am beginning to have my doubts. I don't know if I want to divert attention from working on articles. I have dropped many articles from my watch list because I got tired of reverting silly stuff. Dincher 01:33, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for expanding and nominating the Old Loggers Path and the heads up on Choess' comment. I will look at it now. Penn State has broken my heart again. Oh well. Dincher 20:14, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I decided to get the list up and running. It's been sitting in woodchuck for too long. Still needs work. Maybe someday we'll get it to FL. Dincher 23:37, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

I think I remember hearing about Plunketts Creek Township in Sullivan County. The reference looks like a great project, possible, for me to expand Sullivan County's history on wiki. The Masten article looks good too. I keep thinking about your note about the tree and the leaf. The way things are going, Plunketts Creek (Loyalsock Creek), the article, is going to be as along as the creek! Dincher 00:24, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
The info boxes are a nice mindless project to undertake. I will be adding more as the days pass. Termites are evident in our crawl space. Orkin and Terminix are on the way. War shall be waged and Vengance shall be mine. Dincher 03:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello again

Check your email. BTW, I'm very close to White Clay Creek Preserve and White Clay Creek State Park, and will happily provide pictures from there on request. I'm not the greatest of photographers, but I have (IMO) a nice picture of the Forks of White Clay (Middle and West Branch) in the park in early morning — let me know if you'd like me to upload it. (This is directed at you, too, Dincher, since I know you're reading this.) I also have plans to work on overhauling Bellefonte Central Railroad; I have Bezilla & Rudnicki's book, and with that I think it has FA potential eventually. Best to you and Dincher. Choess 03:16, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Oooh, that's a tricky one. The atlas shows the Cascade township spur as coming down from the S&EM entirely within Lycoming County. After some twisting and turning in which it runs generally southward, it splits in three at a point marked "Cascade"; one spur goes east into Sullivan, turns a horseshoe south, and gets back across the county line before ending; one spur runs a little ways south; and one runs some distance west and is marked "Salt Run". The text says only that the spur was built by Central Penna. Lumber in the 1920s (after they bought and standard-gauged the S&EM) and abandoned in 1930, and that is is "where the Cascade-Hillsgrove road is now". [1] captures part of the line; it looks like it came in too far north to reach Plunketts Creek proper. Choess 19:04, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
BTW, what software do you use to process/compress your digital photos before uploading? I have a nice picture of the Forks of White Clay I'd like to upload to Commons, 2816x2112, but it's 2.87 MB, which seems awfully large. Should I just be cropping more, or what else should I do? List ideas

Your list ideas sound fine and dandy to me. Go for it! The map too. Dincher 00:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean here, "Also I was wondering about making the footnotes in the column header for the ones that have the same ref for all the entries (like ref 1)." I will probably understand after you make the mentioned change. Dincher 00:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I really like the map ideas. And now I understand the refs too. Dincher 00:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Mom is coming to NC starting tomorrow. I will be very busy, probably not on wiki very much. Have a good one. Go Indians. Dincher 04:20, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Mom is back home, wifey is visiting a friend in FL, I will be back on wiki tomorrow. The list looks really good so far. Watching baseball, football and working on wiki is not easy. Wiki must be left alone. Dincher 03:20, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I must have got a dozen dozen mosquito bites getting that pic. Posted lots of others on the commons for Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. Thanks for the comp. Dincher 03:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Did you know

Updated DYK query On 4 October 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Old Loggers Path, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

DYK for Kinzua Bridge?

I wrote an article for the Kinzua Bridge in my sandbox to nominate for DYK. Dincher suggested "...that Kinzua Bridge in Pennsylvania at Kinzua Bridge State Park was the world's largest and tallest railroad bridge at the time of it's construction in 1882." and said that I should run it by you. Any thoughts? --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 02:12, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I like it, but it sounds like that the state park was created after the bridge fell. Is that true? There's no mention of that in state park article. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 03:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Sure, that works. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck with your FAC. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 03:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Ruhr, I finally scanned those images of Kinzua Bridge in, I added one to the bridge article, didn't see much room in the park article. Hope they're good enough for ya. All four are in Category:Kinzua Bridge on Commons. IvoShandor 12:02, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Heh, I even got to conquer it, as you can see from the overhead of the creek, that was from the middle of the bridge basically, and though I have been to PA multiple times since, I only visited the bridge once. IvoShandor 16:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
If you're interested, Kinzua Bridge is currently on DYK on the Main Page. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 16:38, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks on the DYK

Thanks Ruhr, that photo was such great luck, I couldn't believe how stupid my luck was that day. I got this one in Pontiac, Illinois at the Pontiac City Hall and Fire Station, a site I haven't written up yet but that link will go from red to magic blue soon enough. I was touring part of U.S. Route 66 in Illinois and apparently there was a big Route 66 festival thing in Springfield, so everyone was driving there in their hopped up classic cars, it was pretty neat. Geobox 2 and rivers

Geobox news: 2007-10-07
Irregular newsletter on the lastest news, changes and bugfixes for the Geobox template

Hi, I've updated the Geobox code and hopefully fixed all bugss you reported, please check here: User:Caroig/Plunketts Creek 2. Most locations and coordinates should get displyed OK now, the lines shouldn't be broken anymore (but IE is always full of surprises). The reference indexes aren't mixed anymore; it wasn't a bug but it was simply caused by the fact the Geobox 2 template orders some fields differently: the indexes were generated in the order they were entered in the page which was different from the diplay order of the new Geobox template. So one only needed to rearrange the fields in the text (there's an automated tool under development which does this among other fixes, however it doesn't support rivers yet). The only issue might be the split name, well, this is the way the Geobox 2 template works, to help anyone distinguish what's the proper name and what's a general word. The full name gets displayed in the article title, you might also want to use the official_name field of the Geobox. I would have forgotten, the mouth coordinates are now linked to the automated locator dot as requested (in all maps). FYI, instead of generating a new map you might have used the manual map_locator_x and map_locator_y fields of the Geobox to place a locator dot. If anything doesn't work as it should, let me know. – Caroig (talk) 19:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

List troubles

Help! I am trying to add Featured List to the PA wikiproject class ratings. Whatever I am doing is not working! I created this page, Category:FL-Class Pennsylvania articles it needs to be deleted speedily. I am giving up and have asked for help on the template talk page. Dincher 22:24, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Will look at the Lycoming list now. Dincher 00:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I've been working on the formed froms. I'll let this wait. The list is all yours my friend. Congrats on Larrys! Dincher 00:37, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Ooohhh. I didn't know two people could work on the same article at the same time. I shall get to work! Dincher 00:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Done with the formed froms, except for Picture Rocks. Wiki is really cool. Dincher 01:10, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I think that the list is ready to go through peer review, but it would probably be best, for you, to wait until after Larry has been on the main page. I am sure that you will be working hard on it. Dincher 01:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I am all for taking {{convert/{{{2}}}|{{{1}}}|0|||||r=re|d=LoffAoffDbSoff|s=}} out. I think that it is more hassle than it is worth. I will also take a good look at Larry, probably Sat. night. As for the list to PR I am ready if you are. Dincher 20:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for submitting the list. I've been busy IRL. Dincher 17:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I am fairly confident about the success of our new list for PR and future FL. It's one of those "leaves", but I know that it is well written and follows the form of the state parks list. Dincher 21:20, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Copy edit: Black Hawk War

Hey there Ruhr, hope things are well out in PA. I was wondering if you might lend your eye to Sinsinawa Mound raid and Plum River raid to provide a little outside copy editing assistance. I had put in a request with our usual copy editor Cricketgirl but she seems to be on a hiatus, I also requested from another user but it has been awhile for both and I haven't seen any response. I know it doesn't sound like fun but the articles are short and could use and outside eye or two. IvoShandor 23:02, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Ruhr, whenever you have time, it usually takes at least a couple weeks to get a review at GA (if we're lucky we'll get one in a few days but I am not crossing my fingers). IvoShandor 04:23, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
I have looked at Sinsinawa Mound, I think I addressed things as needed, at least as much as source material would allow me to, if you have a shot take another look. You need me to look at something, one of those many things you are working on? Let me know.
PS: I haven't really looked at Plum River yet. IvoShandor 22:51, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Larrys Creek

Compared to today's FA Knights Templar, Larrys Creek takes a loooonngg time to load. This is probably because of the "convert" template. Also the borough link is used when a more specific borough (United States) or even the stubby borough (Pennsylvania). More thoughts to follow. Dincher 22:28, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey man, it looks good! Congrats. I'll keep on eye on it next week! Dincher 22:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I think I will leave a few little notes on the talk page. :)IvoShandor 22:54, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Plunkett - 3 seconds Larry - 11 seconds. (Roughly) The plans sound good. Like working with you too! Dincher 01:03, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

And White Deer Hole Creek 15 seconds! Dincher 01:12, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
WHDC was just FYI. How about hip waders instead of a boat? or is that trespassing, perhaps you could be "looking for your dog". Who's gonna fuss at somebody looking for a pooch? Dincher 01:18, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Congrats, congrats! Good work Ruhr! IvoShandor 04:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)I swear, I owe you a GA.
Good work on getting Plunketts Creek all the way to FA! Dincher 05:19, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I am sure that Larrys Creek is more than ready. I'll take a look at your latest additions tomorrow. Why did Ivo quit? Dincher 02:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll do it ... I was going to ask you if you wanted that, actually.

Re the preferred metric measure for land area: Supposedly the SI calls for km² to be used exclusively, and for any measures more than 250 acres I always use them. You're supposed to use square meters for less than a square km (although most of the SI purists here use 0.x km², at least down to 0.1 and then start using square meters.

I prefer hectares as the metric equivalent for the 2.4-250 acre range because I think people prefer measurement units that are (when a choice is available) easy to express in whole numbers for commonly-used small amounts of what's being measured. Square meters, like square feet, are better for interior area measurements where you're dealing with man-made level surfaces where "square" is intuitive. A square kilometer is a million square meters ... rather large to get a grasp on. I find 0.x decimal measures similarly ridiculous ... I can visualize a square kilometer better than, say, 0.7 km². The best argument there is that, in metric-using countries (i.e. most of the rest of the world), land in parcels smaller than that 1 km² is sold (usually) in hectares. (It's still used as the primary unit of measure for farmland).

There is still some disagreement on this yet. Daniel Case 15:14, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Copyedit is mostly finished. I found a number of citations needed; I imagine you have them and it is just a matter of putting them where they belong. I took a lot of the bridge stuff out because it's in the bridge article now; one of those edits removed a ref which is sticking out later in the article.

I left an detailed summary of my changes on the talk page. Managed to shave about 4K worth off the article. Daniel Case 04:58, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Cogan House Covered Bridge

Wow! Great job. I didn't know the geobox could work for buildings too. You did that today? I may give you another barnstar.

I found that the free fields in the geobox could be used to add NRHP info (year added, ref #). We've been looking for solutions for how to handle RHPs and NHLs that are PAs, bridges, skyscrapers etc., where there's an established infobox for it already. This may well work.

I've added it to the bridges and NRHP projects. I will list it as a new article there (Consider joining WP:NRHP if you can do this sort of work on houses and other old buildings in your area of PA). Daniel Case 18:54, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

FL Main page proposal

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1, 2007, voting starting December 1, 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1, 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:57, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Have you chimed in on this one yet? I like the idea and don't really care if they are voted on or first come first serve. Can't we all just get along? Dincher 20:38, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Rain

Rain is measured in inches in the U.S. How is it measured in the rest of the world? I am working on Gorges State Park home to a temperate rain forest. Can't find this info. I am guessing that it could be measured in cm. Am I correct? Dincher 22:37, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

millimeters? Wow! I remember thinking that mm's were pretty much useless when I was in school. Only good for measuring tiny things. Why in the world would people want to measure rain in mm. Oh well, people probably wonder why we measure in gallons, feet, yards, etc. Thanks. You're right about some of the lists. zzzz Dincher 23:08, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Cogan House Covered Bridge

Great article! I found it very interesting to read. Perhaps one edit is needed in intro section: if it is the only bridge on the given creek, how is it one of a handful that survived a flood? You could clarify it is one of a handful of what, bridges anywhere in Pennsylvania, in the county, wherever you meant. Please visit List of covered bridges in New York and consider fixing up any of those, the articles sure need it and maybe the bridges are not all too far away for you. Keep up the good work. doncram 17:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I also liked the article - thanks for creating it. I wouldn't sweat it that it took a long time -- after all, Wikipedia isn't on a deadline. (That's good, because my to-do list keeps getting longer.) Keep up the good work. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 18:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Shame, shame, shame you forgot to highlight Cogan House Covered Bridge at the DYK nomination page, tsk, tsk. It's done=) and the article looks good! Dincher 21:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Battle of Bad Axe

Congrats your imperial majesty! Anyway, the Battle of Bad Axe is really progressing. I want to take it straight to the Military History WikiProject's A-class review. It will need some outside copy edits, as well as viewpoints, you're input would be greatly appreciated. From A-class it should be an easy road to FA. If you know of anyone else who could give it a good go over and would be willing to ping them, that would be great. Thanks Ruhr. IvoShandor 05:53, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

You might be happy to know that all of the battle articles that will appear on the map now have coordinates. They are exact as I think I can make them, most of them are spot on, a few are just in the general area of the battle, as that is as specific as the source material gets. IvoShandor 09:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I can see the confusion, I will try to clear it up point by point, but first let me say thank you for your excellent work, these catches are key.
  • Neapope's speech was only in the morning in terms of time, it was between 1 am and 2 am, I will check the sources for exact times but "An hour or two after midnight" or some similar wording may work.
  • Sources say a week, Dodge and Atkinson meet at Fort Blue Mounds and resupply during this time. The British Band was at the end of their road, starving, weak, and battle beaten, they made very slow progress over the rough terrain. Atkinson and Dodge's militia was well-fed, well-rested, and aggressively ready to pursue the Natives. Sources, thus imply, that they were able make progress much faster than Black Hawk's band. I suppose I will have to add the additional clarifying material for this to make sense. I was going to do this before and am not sure why I omitted the details. I will try to make doubly sure the timeline is correct, it could be that it was more like 4 or 5 days.
  • Ah yes, the battle was ongoing for 30 minutes before Dodge came up with the center element.
  • Most eyewitness accounts imply that many bodies were likely never found, many, many people drowned in the river fleeing the militia, others made it into the river only to be shot down as they crossed. Most of these bodies were probably never found.
I hope this helps clear things up.

IvoShandor 02:08, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

The Indian Creek stuff sounds good. The legacy stuff, I am not sure on. Maybe a short mention, there is some discussion I have put in the article on Black Hawk, which I have done significant work on lately (over several weeks) too. It still needs expansion, there is a school of thought in scholarly circles concerning this war that the rise of Black Hawk's popularity and use of eponyms and other tributes is nothing more than subtle (some would say not so subtle) way to deny any guilt in the tragedy that befell the entire in Sac nation in time, and specifically that which befell the British Band, I am inclined to agree with some of this interpretation, and the research is valid, I think that a more in depth discussion is needed at Black Hawk's article, and then I will probably be able to add necessary information to both the Battle of Bad Axe, and the Black Hawk War article.
Incidentally, I still hate the organization of the main war article, it seems to choppy. While it lacks some key information, I think, on between the battles movements of key factions, and I realize this, the organization itself, even though I have changed it several times, is still bad. If you had any suggestions for improvement I would be glad to hear them. IvoShandor 02:30, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Lycoming List

The info boxes were added per my request. I was doing them manually then saw that that guy was using a bot, so I requested the bot. I see no need to add the FIPS, if they are requested further down the line we can always add them. The quoted bit about the municipalities will probably need a ref, Let me know when the map is ready. I worked on Goose Creek State Park tonight and nominated it without consulting the "Dr." Take a look if you wish, the hook should be pretty good I think, but if someone wants to get picky, I might not have much to back it up. Who can really prove where Blackbeard lurked? Dincher 02:47, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

My sources say he was there so he was there. I added some comments on the template talk page. Good night. Dincher 03:25, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes. I saw that the list is up and has support. Cool. I just finished up some actual work at Penney's. 2hrs and 45min worth. Oh the horror! Dincher 23:51, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

You are welcome. Dincher 04:10, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

If wishes were horses. Be patient, somebody will have something to say. Hopefully nice things! Dincher 04:41, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Just when I thought that the list couldn't get more comprehensive, you find more stuff! Way to go, now we just gotta get more people to notice it and approve. Dincher 01:10, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I've been lax on wiki these last two days because I am actually doing work! They've got me unloaded boxes of merchandise. This is terrible! Dincher 21:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
I have added your user page to my watch list. Hopefully this too shall pass. Dincher 23:49, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I too hope that they changes will be satisfactory. I am getting anxious about it passing. I don't remember the state parks list taking this long. Dincher 02:28, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

The severed section(s) of the Lycoming list could go to History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania or Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The leads should definetly be in both places and the chart at History of or maybe it's own article linked to both pages. Thoughts? Dincher 21:17, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I was going to cut and paste it, but will let you take care of that. Tonight I am going to work on getting the PA state parks you recommended for GA ready for GA, hopefully. I am excited to hear about plans for Worlds End, FA. I was thinking about that too. I assume the article you are referring to is at the JVB. Yes, the wait can be looonnggg when you are waiting to hear about FLC and a GA, I've got double trouble in that regard. Dincher 21:50, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

  • Thanks for the Peer Review. Even though it was automated, it's actually very helpful and I will get on the suggestions straightaway in order to improve it for FA candidacy. Curt Wilhelm VonSavage 02:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC).
    • Quick question, curious why the bot doesn't just post the automated Peer Review on the actual page itself instead of referring the editor to a different page? Is it because that would take up too much space? Curt Wilhelm VonSavage 03:09, 26 October 2007 (UTC).
  • I implemented all of your suggestions and those of the other peer reviewer at Wikipedia:Peer review/A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant/archive1, save for the copyediting, which I will attempt to do myself and perhaps also elicit help from some others. Do you think the article is ready for WP:FA, or is there more that can be done to ensure a pleasant and smooth WP:FAC discussion? Curt Wilhelm VonSavage 03:40, 27 October 2007 (UTC).

Re: PR at FLC

The process of archiving a peer review request consists of three edits:

  1. Remove the line transcluding the request from Wikipedia:Peer review#Requests.
  2. Add the removed request from step 1) to the current archive (currently at Wikipedia:Peer review/October 2007‎).
  3. Change the {{peerreview}} template on the article's talk page to {{oldpeerreview}} if necessary. Talk pages employing the {{ArticleHistory}} template or for requests originally made through a project peer review page will usually not need this step performed.

Adminship

Thanks for your show of support! You can see my reply on Wizardman's talk page. Just curious, though: do you watch my talk page? :-) Nyttend 14:33, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks much for the confidence, and definitely no problem with you watching my talk page :-) As far as Tennessee: this Census document says that they're "Census County Divisions", similar to Alaska's census areas: no official governmental existence, just Census. It's as if the entire county is divided into CDPs, except they aren't, because Tennessee also has CDPs, and municipalities are part of the "CCDs". Thanks for prodding me to check into this; I myself was looking at the Tennessee map earlier today and wondering if they were townships :-) Nyttend 15:50, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I've always found the Ohio format sufficient. However, it might be more useful to use the Pennsylvania format. Nyttend 05:12, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Presque Isle State Park

Did you see that Presque Isle State Park was up for GA. I made some of the changes that the banana man asked for, but I have no idea what he means by [the daughter article does not have the relevant sources]. I hope it makes it. I didn't even know that it was up. Dincher 00:44, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Ohh! I didn't know what a "daughter article" was. I was looking for a reference about somebody's daughter. Guess I learned something new today. The list says that Crawford Township used to be known as Limestone Township. I am not sure what you mean by trying to figure out what happened to Limestone Township in Clinton County. Hopefully the work at work will pass. Dincher 03:09, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

re: Question

I think that MartinBotII used to automatically transclude peer reviews from other wikiproject prs onto WP:PR; but I haven't been around for a while, so I don't know if it still operates. Checking MartinBotII's contributions show that its stopped around June though, so I'm not sure if any other bot took its place. AZ t 01:35, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Simpsons House

I don't think those photos are legit, meaning I don't think whoever licensed them understood the concept of derivative works. I don't believe that the flickr user in question is the original author of those photos. Thanks though. :) IvoShandor 15:23, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

I too have found photos that way, that was where I went first, I am considering asking some other flickr users if they will release their photos, can't hurt anyway. As for Bad Axe, yeah, absolutely, but I still want to make those tweaks we talked about. I won't be editing as much, to reduce my wikistress levels, and my lashing out about things that normally don't bother me much. I intend to stick around though. A recent conflict at DYK and then a bunch of little things just piled up. I think I may just translate a few articles from Spanish Wikipedia and bide my time for a bit. :) (I already did one: see Memory Park). IvoShandor 15:34, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Kane, PA

Could you add Kane, Pennsylvania to your watchlist. It is always a vandal, and non-notable additions target, especially during the school year. I have so many items on my list I miss it sometimes. Thanks. IvoShandor 17:34, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

That's what happened with me and Kane, I added a photo once and now have many reverts as well, I even got the page semi'd last year. Thanks for your help, it's always nice to have more than once set of eyes on articles, especially obscure and vandalism prone articles like Kane. IvoShandor 18:21, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Larry's Creek Length

Used NIST report for conversion of NGS data. NIST report was incorrect in conversion to kilometers, I appreciate you pointing that out. I will locate the NGS report again for you. It's not online, found it in a library archive. If you were to measure the creek I believe the number I have put here, would be more accurate than your number. Do you live near Larry's Creek? I have lived near this creek my entire life. What is your interest in the creek. If you are local I would love to meet to discuss the creek with you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.163.181.31 (talk) 20:55, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I will reply here and on your talk page too. I would like as much data as possible from you on your sources. 1) What is "NGS"? Please give the title, author(s), publication date, and any other relevant information on the report / data source (where you got the length / or data for the length). 2) Please give the name of the library where the report / archive is - since the libraries near Larrys Creek have online catalogs, please give a URL / link to the report's entry in the catalog. 3) Please give the same sort of information for the "NIST report" used to convert to kilometers. 4) Could you please provide lengths for Muncy Creek or Bald Eagle Creek or White Deer Creek?
I like creeks and the West Branch Susquehanna River watershed has some very nice ones. I started writing about Larrys Creek as it is smaller and all in one county, so it was simpler to write on and a model for other creek articles. Thanks is advance for your sources of data, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:12, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

West Branch Canal

Hi Ruhrfisch. It's time I said "hello". I see that you and Dincher, among others, have done a great deal of work on West Branch Susquehanna articles. My interest in the region has led me to work on the Lock Haven, Pennsylvania article, and one thing is leading to another. For the moment, I'm fixated on canals and trolleys. I've added trolley material to the Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania page, and yesterday I created my first new article, a stub on the West Branch Canal. Before I wrote this stub, none of the canal articles for Pennsylvania included the West Branch Division, and I thought that one should exist that people could link to. The next obvious step for me would be to create similar stubs with parallel titles for the Susquehanna Division and the North Branch Division. None exist in Wikipedia; the Main Line of Public Works page to which the West Branch is linked on some pages, does not include the West Branch Division or, for that matter, many other canals that were part of the Pennsylvania Canal system. (The map on the Main Line page includes the West Branch, but the West Branch was not part of the Main Line.) However, since I'm new on the scene here, I don't want to plunge forward too boldly and possibly make a mess. Have you any thoughts on the matter? Should I plunge ahead? I'd appreciate any advice you'd care to give. Finetooth 20:56, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't know whether it's customary to reply on your talk page or mine, but I thought if I posted here, you'd be sure to see it. Your two Lock Haven photos are just what the Lock Haven page needed, and I added them this morning. Thank you. I will indeed be bold and add more canal pages and data. The Shank book on canals has a lot of quantitative data about the whole Pennsylvania Canal system, and I think I can safely use some of it, with attribution, without violating copyright. I'm sure I can find other bits here and there at sites like that of the Muncy Historical Society. To answer your question about Clinton County history, yes and no. I grew up in and around Lock Haven, and I have a lot of memories and mental images of the place. None of that stuff in my head can be cited, but it helps me to know what to look for in the public records. I'm much more familiar with the southern part of the county than the northern. By the way, your Wikipedia page on Larrys Creek is wonderful, and I've been admiring your photos of places like Hyner. Finetooth 18:19, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Your information about the Wayne and Limestone (now Crawford) Twp histories make sense, and I don't have better sources than the ones you cite. Finetooth 03:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Bad Axe: Thread #4,689

Battle of Bad Axe. When you have time, I have made a few tweaks and additions per your comments. If you want to take another look and finish up whenever you can. Do you think this is ready for an A-class review yet? I figure this will give good direction for an FA bid. I think it will help immensely. Thoughts? IvoShandor 18:57, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Another request

I just never leave you alone, sorry. I have a map request, this one for Eagle's Nest Art Colony, which would be based on the map here. It's apparently not to scale and I am not really worried about this. Of course, the level of detail in the linked map is obviously not necessary for our map. Let me know if you don't have the time for this and I can shop around. IvoShandor 16:17, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Oh and the names of the buildings on that map are not the names that are needed for our map. I am in contact with the director of the campus and though it is not open to the public I may be able to arrange a visit, photo shoot, and mapping expedition. Then, I will have names, and probably distances, so we can scale the map. IvoShandor 16:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On November 7, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Joseph Priestley House, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Pettigrew State Park

If you want to take a break from the Lyco List, as I see you have at Joe's house, take a look at Pettigrew State Park. It is going to be a big one. I worked on the history for several hours, still not sure about the layout of that section, I have get on to the recreational uses and the ecology of the park too. Do you have any new wiki projects up your sleeve? Perhaps Rauchtown Run and it's freaky fish. Dincher 02:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

One of the reasons I keep my projects small and don't go for FA, etc., is that I just don't enjoy the hemming and hawing that it takes to get that far. I will look at the changes to the list. I just saw that bit now. Take it easy, man. Dincher 04:00, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Under the influence of Thera Flu and NyQuil here. I replaced some of these (.) with some of these (;). Mrs. Dincher says to do it. She got an 800 on the Verbal SAT, my bet is that she is right.Dincher 04:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

DYK idea. *...that dugout canoes, some up to 4,400 years old, have been found at the bottom of Lake Phelps in Pettigrew State Park a North Carolina state park named for J. Johnston Pettigrew a hero of the Battle of Gettysburg?

is the hook too long? any other ideas? no hurry Dincher 23:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  • The nomination is in. Thanks again, Dr. Hook. And I have more to add tomorrow. More about the Scuppernong section of the park, some more animals and recreation, who knows what else. Dincher 03:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
I am finally finished with it. Could you take a look at it again? Dincher 16:43, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking possible GA. I'll go for it, thanks for suggesting. Dincher 17:36, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes. I agree about the PA state parks. That could be a new project to tackle. I'll see how Pettigrew goes, perhaps we could tag team them, again. If Presque Isle makes it it will be my first FA. I've been looking and making the requested changes. Dincher 17:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

I just nominated it for GA. Please take a look and see if I did the nomination correctly. I could also use some pointers on what to say about it on the talk page. I can't think of much other than what I put. Dincher 19:28, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Columbia River GA

Ruhrfisch, thank you so much for your Columbia River GA review. I am impressed and grateful for the time and energy you put in. The changes needed were extensive, and I regret that I couldn't do more of them in the time frame of the GA; but hopefully, we'll get it there some day. Thanks for moving that process forward! I hope you'll keep an eye on the page and continue to offer feedback, suggestions etc. -Pete 01:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Presque Isle State Park second section

I was just looking at Presque Isle State Park. Aren't all in line refs supposed to be out of the lead for FAC purposes? I am going to remove them now. Dincher 00:24, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

I didn't remove because I don't know where to put them. Dincher 00:27, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The list of villages looks pretty good. I added links to it in the paragraph about the municipalities, as I am sure you have or will notice. I think I figured out my question about Presque Isle. Dincher 14:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

I still am not sure about where to place the road map or 20 best state parks ref. I am going to leave them alone for now. Maybe it's not a big deal. Dincher 14:19, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

PA state parks (new project)

I am working at the Groundhog to make a list for a system for our latest project. I'll let you know when it is ready or when I am stuck. Good idea. Dincher 00:06, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

I will work on the Groundhog until I have to leave work, after that feel free to edit, I agree, we could get lots of them up to GA or even FA, if we can get the wheels in motion. I have a feeling our work will far outpace the assessments on wiki. Ravensburg would be great to get to FA, I would really like that alot. Dincher 01:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

WAR

I am a retired college professor and would love to be on you side in developing Wikipedia, but since you declared war and blocked me you can go to hell. I had the info on Larry's Creek you wanted to, but I couldn't send it to you since you blocked me. Now I will work to destroy Wikipedia until the day I die thanks to you. You can try to stop me, but I will always win! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.163.181.31 (talkcontribs) 05:38, November 14, 2007

  • This is not my idea of a developing Wikipedia or providing the info on Larrys Creek I wanted (and was done before the block). I did not and can not block you, only an administrator can do that. I did report you to the noticeboard about vandalism (see this diff), because of edits you made like this, the one to Larrys Creek I linked above, and six identical others to random articles.
  • I also reverted some edits you made adding persons without articles to high school articles. Please see our policy on notability and information on living persons. Make an article on them that asserts their notability and is well sourced and you can add them back.
  • There is boilerplate at the bottom of this page as I edit you may want to read and think about: "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable." As a retired college professor, you of all people should understand providing verifiable sources to back up your claims. I have asked you repeatedly for these, but you have failed to provide them. As for the removal of your red links, please see "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it."
  • Another policy here is assume good faith - I have asked for your sources and for more information on some other creeks. I would love to have your positive contributions here and this (again) is what I would like to see:
I would like as much data as possible from you on your sources. 1) What is "NGS"? Please give the title, author(s), publication date, and any other relevant information on the report / data source (where you got the length / or data for the length). 2) Please give the name of the library where the report / archive is - since the libraries near Larrys Creek have online catalogs, please give a URL / link to the report's entry in the catalog. 3) Please give the same sort of information for the "NIST report" used to convert to kilometers. 4) Could you please provide lengths for Muncy Creek or Bald Eagle Creek or White Deer Creek?
  • Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:58, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  • PS If you persist in vandalism (note that removing warnings from your talk page is often considered vandalism), you will be blocked again and for longer periods of time. I will also post this on your talk page - even if you are blocked, I believe you can edit there.
  • PPS It is possible that someone else has the same IP address and using it for vandalism (although the fact that your IP address has remained the same and that the first vandalism was to Larrys Creek seem to argue against this). Creating your own account would avoid that problem. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:06, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

PA Townships

Thanks for your response, but one more question. Are PA Townships considered incorporated municipalities, or are they unincorporated areas with minor civil government? The articles are clear that NJ Townships are fully incorporated as any other municipality in the state, whereas Midwestern Townships are unincorporated subdivided areas of counties. What's Pennsy's deal regarding townships? Thank you. 24.149.203.252 —Preceding comment was added at 12:34, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I do not know much about New Jersey. My understanding is that Pennsylvania's townships are incorporated municipalites. They elect their own supervisors, have their own budgets and zoning, and cannot be annexed by an adjoining city as can midwest townships. Could you please clarify which response of mine you are referring to? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:00, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
