Rugby union in 2008

After a highly successful year in 2007 for rugby union, especially after the 2007 Rugby World Cup, 2008 is proving to be an interesting year in world rugby[1]. Qualifiers for the 2011 Rugby World Cup began in the Caribbean, meanwhile the Six Nations Championship and the Tri Nations are both set for another season.

- Nations Cup
- 2008 IRB Junior World Championship — This is the inaugural IRB Junior World Championship, a tournament for under-20 men's teams that replaces the International Rugby Board's previous under-19 and under-21 world championships.
- 2008 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy — The IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy, also launching in 2008, is the second tier of the IRB's new under-20 championship structure. The inaugural event, held in Chile, was won by Uruguay, who are now promoted to play in the 2009 IRB Junior World Championship.
