Removed this claim:
"Ruffed Grouse have never been successfully bred in captivity."
Allen in Auk 51 p180- discusses his captive females producing eggs with 96% fertility rate. Though he does not explicitly say he brought up young, the general impression of his report is that this was commonly achieved and not really worth mentioning. Other grouse reproduce not too rarely in captivity. HBW claims sizeable restocking programs exist. Plenty of circumstantial stuff suggesting the claim is utter BS, but no smoking gun.
