Napajedla news 8/2001, Who was prof. RNDr. Rudolf Plajner

The old and older scouts would answer that he was the second chief of scouts after the founder A. B. Svojsík. Some of them would also remember his nickname "Dad" (cs:Táta) according to how much he took care about scouts all the years.

Rudolf Plajner was born 5th April 1901 in Prostějov and as a 15 years old he joined the group led by Jiří Wolker. Since then all his life was interlaced by scouting. Subsequently he worked in functions in higher scout units (oddíl, sbor, okres, župa...) He took part in the world jamborees in England and Hungary, he was delegate of the 7th international conference. In this functions he closely cooperated with the founder of the czech scouting and the first chief A. B. Svojsík.

In 1929 he starts to teach on high school (exactly cs:reálné gymnázium) in Holešov. In the 1st August 1939 he was called to Prague to organize the national defence education (?, cs:branná výchova) at the schools and the clubs. After the death of A. B. Svojsík in 1938 he makes all the chiefs' agenda and he works on unification of the czech scouting into newly established organization called Junák. In the January 1939 he is elected as a chief of Junák in Morava and in the beginning of March he becomes the chief of all Czech (or Czechoslovak?) scouts. After the organization prohibition in November 1939 he is forced to liqiduate Junák headquarters. He participates in illegal operations and is arrested by gestapo in 1943. After few months he is released because of the vacancy of the proofs. In 1944 he founds illegal national boards (cs:národní výbor) in Holešov and in the Holešov region and after the Holešov liberation in 1945 he chairs the first session of the revolutionary national board (cs:revoluční národní výbor). He again leads the Junák, in 1946 he is elected its chief and in 1947 he is member of 500 scouts expedition into jamboree in France.

After the events in February 1948 the Junák is controlled by Action Comitee (cs:Akční výbor) and Plajner returns to Holešovice high school (exactly cs:gymnázium). But he received an order not to interest himself in outschool chuildren education. In 1949 he is arrested by National security (police, cs:Státní bezpečnost), interned in prison in Uherské Hradiště, suspended from the high school and after few months released (from school? or from prison? or both?).

Between 1950 and 1959 he is allocated as a help in school outside his residence and then he definitely leaves Holešov.

During "Prague spring" (cs:Pražské jaro) in 1968 he again in 29th March gets in the chiefs of Junák and congress (cs:sněm) confirms him in the chief function. After the Junák termination in 1970 he is elected as a member of (cs:Ústřední rada PO SSM, en:Headqarters of Pionyr Organization of the Union of Socialistic Youth?). In 1977 he gives up all the functions of youth education and starts to write studies about scouting history. In 1986 he finished his work about prof. Svojsík and together with other (works?) he deposits it into the "Memorial of national literature" (cs:Památník nároního písmenictví) in Prague - Strahov.

He died in 23. June 1987.

During his life he was awarded by many scout honours, in 1965 he received the memorial medal "Deserves after the fight against the facism" (cs:Za zásluhy v boji proti fašismu) of the president of the republic and in 1969 he got "Order of work" (cs:Řád práce).

Rudolf Plajner acted in Holešov with short breaks for 30 years. Holešov scouts set up to his memory the Memorial of R. Plajner (cs:Memoriál R. Plajnera) every year. It is a march from Tesák to Hostýn. Children of all ages take part and also it is organized for all the other incoming people. This year (2001) the Memorial was also the remembering of the 100 years since his birth and a small memorial with memorial plague was unrolled on Hostýn. Members of Napajedla troop also took part on this action. Scouts still remember their second chief and for the older ones he still remains their "Dad"...
