Rodolfo (Rudy) Fernández Farrés (born April 4, 1985 in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands) is a Spanish professional basketball player. He is a 6'6" tall shooting guard who will join the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers for the 2008-09 season, joining fellow countrymen Pau Gasol, Jorge Garbajosa, José Manuel Calderón, Juan Carlos Navarro and Sergio Rodríguez (also with Portland) as the sixth Spaniard in the NBA. He is expected to join the Trail Blazers following the 2008 Olympics Basketball Tournament in Beijing.[1]

Fernández has been participating in international basketball competitions since he was sixteen years old. He played at the FIBA Europe European Junior Championships and the 2004 Olympics Basketball Tournament. He also represented the Spanish National Basketball Team at the 2006 FIBA World Championship, where he contributed 9.1 points per game and won a gold medal. He played along with Ricky Rubio in Spain with the professional club Joventut Badalona [2]. Rudy's sister, Marta Fernández, plays in the WNBA for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Rudy Fernández won the 2006 FIBA EuroCup and the 2007-08 ULEB Cup with Joventut Badalona. In July of 2007, his contract with Joventut was extended through 2011, however his contract was bought out early so that he could join the NBA.

On June 28, 2007, Fernández was taken 24th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, who subsequently traded the rights to the pick along with James Jones to the Portland Trail Blazers for cash.
Rudy Fernández announced in a press conference on Friday, June 6, 2008 that he will leave DKV Joventut to join the Portland Trail Blazers for the 2008-2009 NBA season. He is expected to join the NBA team after the Olympic Games in Beijing. [3]
