Ruby Young Elementary School (DeSoto, Texas)

Ruby Young Elementary School is a public school in DeSoto, Texas (USA). It is part of the DeSoto Independent School District.
Located at 707 Young Boulevard, the school serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through five that reside in the northwestern portion of DeSoto ISD.
Named after Ruby Young, a former DeSoto schoolteacher, the school opened on January 4, 1965.

As of the 2005-2006 school year, Ruby Young had a total of 523 students (66.9% African American, 19.3% White, 11.9% Hispanic, 0.5% Asian, and 0.4% Native American).

Based on the accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on August 1, 2006, Ruby Young Elementary is currently rated "Recognized".

Most Ruby Young students attend DeSoto West Middle School. Students attending Ruby Young who live west of Cockrell Hill Road are zoned to McCowan Middle School.[1]

In the 2005-2006 school year, DeSoto ISD began a mandatory school uniform policy at all of its schools.
