[edit] Brief history

RTL Nederland was previously known as the Holland Media Group (HMG) (until 2004), a joint-venture founded in 1996 between RTL 4 SA (CLT-UFA) and Vereniging Veronica. Veronica became a commercial broadcaster in 1995, when it stepped out the public broadcasting system and jointed CLT-Ufa. RTL 4 SA then consisted out of the two television channels RTL 4 and RTL 5. HMG would partner together with Saban in the television channel TV10; later Fox would buy HMG's share in TV10, but failed obtaining its goals resulting in selling the operation to SBS Broadcasting which on its turn rebranded finally the channel in Veronica (daytime programming is for Jetix).

Veronica would exit the HMG combination in 2001, with the channel being renamed to Yorin by RTL, and RTL Group SA owning 100 % of the company. In august 2004 HMG rebranded itself into RTL Nederland. Yorin was also used as name for a radio channel, but this was sold to SBS Nederland beginning 2006. The television channel Yorin would be renamed on 12 August 2005 to RTL 7 as a 'new' Luxembourgish tv-station.

In August 2007 John de Mol obtained a 26.3% share in RTL Nederland in exchange for his privately owned television channel Tien and national radio station Radio 538. RTL Nederland launched RTL 8 on august 18, 2007. Radio 538 was obtained on october 1, 2007.
