The film version of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band did not "cripple the company". In fact it carried on until 1983 with the million selling album and film Staying Alive, a sequel to Saturday Night Fever. SPLHCB destroyed and gutted RSO along with Stigwood's reputation. It was one of the costliest and most ruinous flops in the history of showbusiness. Subsequent record sales by the well-established Bee Gees, impressive as they may have been, did not come close to covering the losses from this financial disaster.
