I-94 Interchanges
User: Appraiser created this article on 7 December 2006 with the hopes of consolidating space on the main I-94 article. I took the liberty of moving the detail to individual state pages:
Interstate 94 in Montana Interstate 94 in North Dakota Interstate 94 in Minnesota Interstate 94 in Wisconsin Interstate 94 in Illinois Interstate 94 in Indiana Interstate 94 in Michigan
thus the interchange page is not necessary and IMHO should be deleted. I can notify Appraiser of such if necessary, but I wanted to get an opinion of a more experienced editor as well. (Not to say Appraiser isn't experienced? I don't know)
Since it was only linked to I-94, There wouldn't be a reason to bring it up to debate first IMHO.
Could you get back to me at your earliest convience - and I hope you had a good vacation. • master_sonLets talk 03:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

A copyvio problem
Hey Rschen. A user, 512theking, has been uploading pictures stolen from state-ends.com and releasing them into the public domain as their author, which is most certainly not the case. I would not bring this up here except for the fact that this user is the same one as Albertotineo10 and Kingofpitching10, the former of which committed the same copyright violations. What should be done? --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- How do we know this? Has a checkuser been done? --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, but I believe that this edit is implicating enough. The target of the two users' contributions (PA-related articles) are almost identical as well. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:28, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- That is a bit suspicious. And how Albertotineo10 suddenly gave up and left? The problem is what to do, however... I'll consider blocks but this may need to be taken to a higher level. I'd say take this to ANI and see what they say. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:36, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. That seems like the best approach at this point. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:37, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Infobox standards
I did out of curiosity a study of the current infoboxes on all of the routes and found the following:
5 states use boxes that are not in any way tied to infobox road - meaning that they were independently built.
8 States more than likely don't use any infoboxes (not a big deal to me though)
All of the rest (including several states that have their own boxes - which are partly filled Infobox roads) use Infobox road. The concern I have with a state or two:
Anyhow - That's my two (hundred) cents. I brought this up since all of the browse boxes comply with WP:USRD now but if I tried to use it in certain places - problems may arise. Thanks in advance. • master_sonLets talk 00:41, 14 January 2007 (UTC) |
- User:TwinsMetsFan has been working on this at User:TwinsMetsFan/browse for a while... with regards to Illinois I would say offer them the chance to change their infobox (maybe it can be converted without changing too much?) but don't force them. Shields are supposed to be SVG though so MN does have to switch over... but ask shields subdepartment to make sure. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 00:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oklahoma could be converted with minimal effort, I've left a note on their WP page. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 01:05, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- not to worry - I'm not going to press the issue with them right now unless TMF or you would like me to. I'm trying to get a hold of Sable232 since he has done some already. Then kill two birds with one stone - converting the infobox -which should go easy since it's essentially a carbon of Missouri's. • master_sonLets talk 02:25, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

UT SR Page question
Hey. I recently added an infobox on the Utah State Route 68 page. Everything is well, except the image of the SR-68 shield doesn't show up. Instead, the normal gray background just stays there. Can you check the page to see if you have the same problem? Thanks - •The RSJ• Talk | Sign Here 04:10, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- the thumbnail program still has bugs - if you follow the image into wikiCommons - then tack on "?action=purge" to the end of the url, it will refresh the thumbnail. I just did that and it shows up now. • master_sonLets talk 00:36, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

How Come?
How come you and that TMF guy talking about me stealing images. Listen i did you guys a great favor on a lot of Pennsylvania Highways that need help if you guys want to block me, be my guest. But next time say it in my talk page instead of talking to one of your friends about it first. What is this the Wiki:Police, don't make me laugh i'm leaving and never doing this again and by the way, i'm not albertotineo10 or the other guy. -- The King is done (512theking)
Additional info
Just to let you know, User:512theking told User:Prisonbreak91 to pick up where he left off. Also, if you check 512theking's page, it says that 512theking quit and never coming back. This was just a heads-up if you didn't look yet. V60 VTalk - VDemolitions 05:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- OK, WOW! Looks like we have a sockpuppet amongst our pages from the looks of it involving the users you mentioned in this section and in the Copyvio problem section above (obviously) And for sure - it looks like User:Prisonbreak91 is also User:512theking - (the former is the one that put this section in your page. :-Z. Why - and how - did he sign with the latter's name instead?) Are you guys having their IPs checked if possible to see where they're contributing from? • master_sonLets talk 03:55, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Blocks
Effective immediately, I am blocking the following users and IPs for abusive sockpuppetry, trolling, image copyright violations, MOS problems, etc. With the exception of Prisonbreak10 and the IPs, all will be blocked indefinitely. The ones not blocked indefinitely will be blocked for 48 hours. However, with any further violations, the aforementioned accounts and any socks will be blocked indefinitely on sight. Let this serve as a final warning to the person behind all of these accounts:
- User:Prisonbreak91
- User:512theking
- User:512theking10
- 209.244.30.249
- 172.146.169.214
- User:Kingofpitching10

If anyone has concerns regarding these blocks, please contact me on my talk page. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Rschen, I just removed trolling from the 209... IP. He just said that he'll create another account and vandalize more. So just as a precautionary measure, block his IP from creating accounts (and of course editing pages). V60 VTalk - VDemolitions 23:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually the IP is 209.244.30.229. Now block him indefinitely from creating accounts and editing pages. V60 VTalk - VDemolitions 23:07, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- According to the blocking policy, "Indefinite blocks should not be used on IPs; many IPs are dynamically assigned and change frequently from one person to the next, and even static IP addresses are re-assigned or have different users." Also, do we know that the recent ones are the same person? It could just be someone familiar with the case and wanting to stir up trouble. If you want to do a longer-term block on the IP, you should probably ask on requests for checkuser to ensure that they are the same person. --NE2 23:21, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, but I don't think there's much doubt that these IPs are the same person as the users listed above. See their contributions for evidence. I'm not saying that a checkuser isn't needed - I'm just saying it's extremely likely that a checkuser would come up positive. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 23:28, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Specifically, it's not clear to me that 512theking10 is the same as the other people. It's certainly likely, but could be a troll stirring stuff up. --NE2 23:41, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- What other actions are available to deal with IPs? It seems that would be very difficult to block one because it's variable • master_sonLets talk 23:57, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

TMF and I are trying to fend off a violation of WP:NOR and possibly WP:VERIFY by an anon editor. The trouble is, that editor claims that he/she has been on the road frequently, but I said repeatedly that reliable sources are the content that can be on Wikipedia, and that original research is prohibited at all times. The great highway deletion debates
has anyone ever noticed something about the experience of these users who are putting up the AfDs like User:Inkpaduta. Who are they to come in do this? Many of them have hardly been here long enough. • master_sonLets talk 16:03, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Injustice of course. We get people not from WP:USRD telling us what to do. But eventually ... well all the problems we've had with that have gone our way, except for stubs. Those editors won't budge. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 01:43, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. In relation to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Minnesota State Highway 127, doing "random article patrol" is a housekeeping project to find unsourced stubby articles, vanity articles, hoaxes, nonsense articles, and commerical spam articles. I click on a "Random article" and sometimes find an article which needs sources. If it is a stub and it looks like sources cannot be found to make it more than a stub, I may nominate it for deletion. I looked it up in Google, I studied iits satellite image and map at Google map, and I could not see how it could ever make an encyclopedia article on its own. Random article patrol means I may nominate a Polish rap group, then a porn actor, then a short piece of highway. I am sorry if I got ego involved in this one AFD, because the intention is just to have all the articles be well sourced non-stubs and which have evidence of notability. Was this Minnesta highway AFD mentioned on a project page or noticeboard? It seemed like several editors came trooping in to say "all roads are notable." References of a map and being on a bid list satisfy the WP:RS and WP:V issues, but there are lots of things which exist without belonging in an encyclopedia. And there is the question of where you draw the line: if any tiny piece of the state road system is notable, (some of the sections are pretty short and there does not seem to be much you could say about them) what about county roads and city streets? Some of these stubs would do better is a list which collected them than in individual articles. On the project page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. Highways I see discussion of merging extremely short sections, and that still seems like a good idea, just because there is not much to be said in the article. Regards. Now I'll just wander on down the road to another random article. Inkpaduta 20:02, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please read the instructions at the top of the page and put new posts at the bottom, because I didn't notice this post the first few times around. It is fair game to inform other editors about such deletion. Per consensus, state highways are notable, whether you agree or not. One of the major philosophies on Wikipedia is going along with consensus and yielding to it, whether you agree with it or not.. As I see you have been here only a week, I would strongly advise that you learn this early on, for you will most definitely run into situations like this again. County roads have been deemed notable, but streets have not, except for famous streets in places like Manhattan.

You know about highways. Are there sources which could be added to this to make it a better article? Sould it be merged? With what? Hey Rschen7754
Hi, i'm wondering what happened to all my brother's user pages:User:512theking, User:512theking10, User:Kingofpitching10, User:Prisonbreak91, and other ones. My brother is in juvy becuase he stole a car so he can't vandalize wikipedia but i'm still wondering what will happen to all of his pages? Vandalism by User:68.127.37.6
The recent edits by 68.127.37.6 on Interstate 630 have been rather disruptive and, as I see it, vandalism. I wouldn't have thought much of it the first time (detailed below) as I assumed a good-faith edit gone bad, but as of this second time, and after reading his talk page, I'm concerned and feel that action should be taken. Your thoughts? For all intensive purposes, I've copied this to User:Ryanpostlethwaite. First occurance Second occurance Cheers, --MPD T / C 04:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Automated message to bot owners
As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:
Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.
Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:52, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

- They're definitely harder to see than a multi-column row. Whether or not they're too hard I suppose depends on personal opinion – how important one thinks the concurrencies are. In other words how important is the I-81/VA 100 concurrency that it needs a multi-column row to bring attention to it? -- NORTH talk 01:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

About my rating for the WP:CAL
Hello, I am a member of the WP:CAL. The routes you have rated are on my Watchlist. I have contributed to them and have rated for our project. I would like to rate higher than B, Low but have guidance on this from a respected proect member on ratings. On articles of great importance to our project, I have rated up to B, Mid. This one should be that but not when stacked up against some of our other projects. Hope this helps. BTW, I added to U.S. Route 40 a source that gives great descriptions on our state routes/interstates Interstate 40. If you look at the top of the page, there is a box to type in a route number ala 68 which talks about our California State Route 68. Lots of great info. Ronbo76 03:42, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

I got this notice when I started applying the current shields. I might need someone to back me up on this.
- I noticed you've been replacing the historic shields with the modern blue ones. This can't happen. It's misleading to put the modern shield on an article when the highway was decommissioned long before that style was used. In that case I see it as better to have no shield at all than an incorrect one, but I still don't see what the problem with mine is. --Sable232 14:10, 28 March 2007 (UTC) (on my talk page)

Your input would be appreciated at Talk:Interstate 238. A debate has developed about 238's status as a child or non-child of I-80. User:Chriscf is claiming it is a child of 80 while I'm claiming it is not as we've been treating it from day one. - The problem is, there is a huge backload of tasks at USRD that need to get approved that were waiting on that archived request. Such as the delivery of newsletters that are delivered tomorrow.
- Quite frankly, the level of bureaucracy at BRFA is disturbing and frustrating, especially for a bot that has been approved by the old bot group and has a bot flag. It can be stated that it would be quicker for me to carry out the tasks manually than to wait for the current BRFA group to slowly agree with my requests. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 22:09, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that you feel that way, but complaining isn't going to help. Really. I don't know what you mean about "new" and "old" bot approvals groups, because there's only been additions; only Essjay (who was inactive) and Betacommand have been removed. There's just a lot of bots that need to be dealt with, and we have to be very careful about EVERYTHING. Much more than just manual editing. When letting a bot run, it's crucial that everything is perfect, because fixing it is TONS of work. —METS501 (talk) 22:14, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

USRD Newsletter template coding error...
The template that delivers the USRD has a missing </small> tag that is wreaking havoc with my talkpage, probably others as well, and it looks like yours too. That should probably be fixed... Its right before your signature. When the tag is left unclosed, it propagates through the whole page. Just thought you should know, and can fix it before the next issue. - Yeah, HTML tidy has been tweaked a bit, so it won't automatically close <small> tags. I've fixed it here. V60 干什么? · VDemolitions 16:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_U.S._Roads/Newsletter#Delivery_of_link_rather_than_content ... anything you can do to help greatly appreciated, it clutters up my talk page :) ++Lar: t/c 22:43, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Road cruft
That stuff belongs on talk pages. I think you can agree with me that there is no excuse in the world for a Wikiproject to be named in a template used on an actual mainspace article. There may well be a need to use some cleanup template, but the mention to the project... has got to go. Sorry if you personally were offended. Matt Yeager ♫ (Talk?) 19:52, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Six-month block
Was a six-month block of 213.189.150.86 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log) really necessary? The IP made one vandal edit and you blocked him six months. Yeah, yeah... so he had a previous block record. But still... -- tariqabjotu 04:09, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I believe it was, since obviously he did not learn from his previous blocks. This shows that he has not learned anything, and this is to protect the integrity of Wikipedia. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Highway 99
Where I grew up (in the northern San Joaquin Valley), 99 is commonly known as "Highway 99", not "State Route 99". In this case, WP:USSH is misleading. By the way, Google searches show:
- 341,000 hits for "Highway 99" California
- 139,000 hits for "Hwy 99" California
- 45,000 hits for "State Route 99" California
- 41,000 hits for "SR 99" California
-- Jasper 04:46, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Then take it up with WT:USRD. Be forewarned, however, you will upset many people for bringing this up. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:48, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

WP:USSH
I don't think you meant to say "The infobox should use either the official name of the road which is not necessarily the same as the article title." That's an incomplete sentence, and I'm not sure exactly what's meant by it. There are some infoboxes that don't use the "official" name, such as New York State Route 15. I screwed that sentence up too though; sorry. --NE2 05:00, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed, thanks for the warning. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 05:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
