hi, sorry for interruption, could you please see to the NPOV of exclusion of Brazil from this article. It was there until a month ago, and some guys keep excluding South America and Brazil from what I believe is its just place (and I am not alone, since these previous edits were there long before, to include Brazil). thanks Perroot 21:59, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.

[edit] Your contributions

I have moved your list of contributions on Wikipedia to your user page. My apologies for writing to your user page which is generally not done on Wikipedia. However, your article page is not the place for your list of Wikipedia contributions. It risks that page being seen as a Wikipedia:Vanity page. Since you are the only author to that page you might do well to go through and question whether what is written there would be written by an encyclopedia writer from Brazil who may have met you once. You should read Wikipedia:Auto-biography and go to the link Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. I will not put the page up for deletion but others might. --CloudSurfer 18:31, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Psychopathology

I have noticed you have been doing some nice edits to the area covered by Wikipedia:WikiProject Psychopathology. You may wish to join us there. This is a group of people who are either professionally involved in the area, students of psychology, or who have specific interests. We are attempting to fill the various gaps that exist on Wikipedia in this field. Have a look at the main page and then have a look at the sub-pages listed at the bottom. By the way, your recent entries on Shock therapy didn't really cover malarial fever treatment. These are the sort of things that should really be in an encyclopaedia as otherwise they will fall from memory and be lost. If you have enough information on these treatments they could really each have an article of their own.

You will note that I removed your home page as, not being directly related to the article, it would be seen as a spam link. Any reader finding your other link interesting would then be likely to surf to the homepage which achieves the same purpose. Also, I am just getting the hang of Wikipedia:Cite sources as to how sources should be cited. I am afraid I didn't read this until recently and I have done a pile of refences in a numbered format. It does bring up the issue that web articles often do not have a date on their page. Wikipedia is the same but using the history tab one can determine when the last edit was made. You might want to consider dates for your projects. One thing I have used on web pages I have written is a line that states when the page was last edited with the date being updated automatically with each edit. Anyway, welcome and please join us. --CloudSurfer 18:34, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Puccamp pics

Thanks for uploading Image:Puccamp1.jpg and Image:Puccamp2.jpg. I've been tagging images, and I came across these. Did you take the photos yourself? If not, where do they come from? Thanks, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 22:58, Nov 9, 2004 (UTC)

Hi, thanks, Quade11, They were taken from PUCCAMPs photo album on the Internet.

[edit] Stefan Zweig picture - copyright?

Hi, I very much like the photo you have added to Stefan Zweig. However, you have not indicated anything about the copyright status of this image - it would be great if you could give that information please. Thanks 138.37.188.109 10:45, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the inquiry. I took it from the official Stefan Zweig site. I send a message to the webmaster for authorization, and I am waiting for a response.

[edit] Hello

Hello. I think you're using far too many capital letters. Nearly every article listed on your user page has an "External Links" section (I've started changing these to "External links", with a lower-case "l") and other gratuitous capitals in section headings. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style; on Wikipedia it's not conventional to capitalize an initial letter merely because it's in a section heading. Michael Hardy 02:20, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Capital letters in excess

Thanks, my friend. I will try to remember. Its a style coming from books and theses in Brazil.

It's also used in many books and magazines published in English, but Wikipedia, like any publisher, has a "house style", found at Wikipedia:Manual of Style. Another thing: on Wikipedia one conventionally begins with a complete sentence, not a dictionary-style definition, and highlights the title word or title phrase at its first appearance, like this (see my recent edits to Fort Coligny). Michael Hardy 02:49, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Viracopos.jpg

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Viracopos.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 18:09, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Unverified images

Hi. You uploaded Image:Vital-brazil.jpg but did not list any source and/or copyright information on the image description page. Please mark it either as GFDL or public domain. [edit] Bradykinin

Hey Rsabbatini, very good work on bradykinin. I did not realise so much work on it had been done in Brazil. Could you elaborate on the role of des-9-arg-bradykinin? From the literature I'm not sure if it is active on all bradykinin receptor subtypes. It does seem that ACE-inhibitor-related angioedema is due to polymorphisms in bradykinin metabolism. JFW | T@lk 21:36, 2 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I am really not an expert on bradykinin, but I will inquire some friends who have worked under Rocha e Silva. User:Rsabbatini

[edit] Images

When uploading images please always edit the image description page and do two things:

 1. State the source of the image (created yourself, the address of a web page or another source.)
 2. State the copyright. The easiest way to list the copyright is to use a copyright tag. The most important tags are GFDL, PD, and fairuse. GFDL is for images that you create yourself. PD is for public domain images (pre-1923 in most cases). Fair use is for copyrighted images that we can use under the fair use rules in the USA.

Without proper source and copyright information, images will eventually be deleted!

If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images (on my talk page) and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much.

In particular do you own the copyright to Image:Cotuca-unicamp.jpg? Zeimusu | Talk 04:13, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Diabetic nephropathy

My compliments on this page. I moved the page from Kimmelstiel-Wilson syndrome to its much more common name diabetic nephropathy. I must say I had never heard that there was an eponym for it! JFW | T@lk 02:22, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, my friend. I was thinking about this renaming, too, because it is how it is known now, but I confess I have a weakness for eponyms! :-)

BTW, I'm having a tremendous difficulty in finding the current name for two other eponymous diseases, Hodgson's (see Joseph Hodgson) and Pavy's (see Frederick William Pavy). Do you have any clue? User:Rsabbatini

Whonamedit, my eponym resource, is silent on Pavy and Hodgson. You have probably tried Google already. I suffer from similar eponymophilia. JFW | T@lk 19:36, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I guess I will have to visit the old paper-based library! I enjoy WhoNamedIt, too, but, despite its size, it lacks the more obscure eponyms (and even a few common ones). Google, A9 and the new remarkable contextual search engine produced nothing of real value User:Rsabbatini

[edit] More Image Tagging

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexandre Yersin.jpg. Thanks so much, Superm401 05:44, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC) P.S. I noticed this isn't the first request for tagging. Please try to be more careful in the future. It will be appreciated. Thanks again, Superm401 05:44, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Instituto Oswaldo Cruz

Hello! This article appears to have been copied from [1], a web page of the institute. Their main page has a © notice (see [2]), and I can't find any indication in the Brazilian Copyright law (Lei 9.610) that would state that general government publications were in the public domain. (Only treaties, conventions, laws, decrees, regulations, judicial decisions and other official enactments are; but general publications are not.) Can you justify the inclusion of this text almost verbatim in Wikipedia? For the time being, I have marked this as a suspected copyright infringement. Lupo 09:06, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Academia Brasileira de Ciências

Renato, I am really sorry to bug you again. But did you know that a straight-forward translation of a work without the permission of the author of the original work is also a violation of copyright? See chapter III, §29(IV) of Lei 9.610. This makes Academia Brasileira de Ciências a copyright infringement, too, unless you do have permission from ABC. If not, you'd have to rephrase and restructure a lot more. Although I don't speak Portuguese, I can read it well enough to see that the article is a very good, but direct translation of [3]. (On a side note, the ABC site doesn't show any © notice anywhere, but that is not necessary for the work to be copyrighted.) So, could you please rewrite that article? Or post some indication that you did have permission of ABC on the talk page? Lupo 09:07, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Lupo, please be calm, what you are doing is spoiling completely my will to write to Wikipedia. I am in a drive to start an editorship on science and technology in Brazil. I don't know why on the earth you imagine that only the US government has public-domained its pages. I am in contact with the President of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, a former teacher, colleague and good friend of mine, Eduardo Krieger, who is supporting me on this project and has become very interested in it, because it is ultra-important to the Brazilian scientific establishment to have knowledge about us well divulged. I have convinced him that Wikipedia would be a good medium for this because of its interlinking capabilities and popularity as a peer-reviewed medium. He is in the process of releasing thousands of pages from the Academy with bios on scientists, historical material, etc., written in English (although very badly) to me to reproduce in Wikipedia and which will form an incredibly rich material for us. You may have noted that I am not your run-of-the-mill hacker and nerd, for whom Wikipedia is just a hobby. I am a senior Brazilian scientist and university professor, and award-studded science writer, with excellent relationship with most of the current bosses of Brazilian science. They will not, I repeat, will not prosecute me or Wikipedia for the mere fact that we are publishing expertly written info on their beloved institutions and people. You are just too hard on this.

I had to capture and edit some pages prior to written consent, just to demonstrate to him what can be done, OK?? Please reinstate my Academia Brasileira de Ciências page, because it was in the process of being discussed with the board what a very nice thing it is, and now what you have done is just taint the page with the suspicion of wrongdoing, which I AM NOT DOING. Thanks. Prof.Dr. Renato M.E. Sabbatini, BA, PhD, etc., etc.

 1. I'm not trying to "spoil" anything. In fact, I recognize that you are doing good work, which is why I do contact you about these things in the first place. I don't normally do this. I'm trying to make sure that we don't have copyright infringements on Wikipedia.
 2. If you do have permission to use these texts under the GFDL, then state so. Academia Brasileira de Ciências gave the source, but it didn't indicate in any way that the copyright owner had agreed to release this translation under the GFDL, which allows anyone to modify the text in any way and to reuse it for whatever purposes, including commercial uses.
 3. I never said only the U.S. government placed its publications in the public domain. But I know that other governments don't do this. And the Brazialian copyright law doesn't say so for the Brazilian government. Can you provide a source for your claim that the Brazilian government does release all its publications (or at least those on the Web) into the public domain? That would be really helpful.
 4. I wasn't exactly suspecting wrongdoing. I rather had the feeling that maybe you just weren't aware of these copyright issues.
 5. No need to throw your degrees and scientist status at me. To quote your own words, "You may have noted that I am not your run-of-the-mill hacker and nerd." I'm not impressed; I hold a few degrees including a PhD myself. I am impressed by your generally good contributions.

Lupo 12:13, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

(P.S.: if you can demonstrate permission, it might be a good idea to put a brief note like "This article is based on [URL]. Used with permission, see Talk:Academia Brasileira de Ciências." on talk pages of future articles you copy/translate from external sources to help avoid any misunderstandings. Lupo)
(P.P.S.: for demonstration purposes, you are surely aware that the text is still available in the page history? Lupo)

[edit] Cesar Lattes

Dear Sir, thank you for your contributions. I have a question about the copyright status of Image:Cesar Lattes.jpeg: The notice says Public domain State University of Campinas, but the online source [4] claims © 1994-2004 Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Could you as a former director of one center of the University direct me to a page or link that states the source as public domain? Otherwise we could list the image as fairuse, that would be no problem at all. My apologies for the hassle, I am just trying to clarify things. And again thank you for your many contributions. Best wishes, -- Chris 73 Talk 04:07, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC) >Hi, Chris, it is fair use, generated by the Press Office of my university. [edit] Transmissão oral do T. cruzi

Oi Renato,

[edit] Robin Coombs

Do you have any biographical material on Robin Coombs? With his impact on immunology this Cambridge chap certainly deserves his own page. JFW | T@lk 00:31, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The fact that he has now died has helped. Oddly, the initial article suggested he trained in Scandinavia, yet the Lancet obituary this week places his training in Scotland! I've changed it around and referenced it. JFW | T@lk 14:51, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Stereo 820d.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Stereo 820d.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Interview

Hi. We worked together some in the Chagas disease article. Yesterday, I saw the program "Linha Direta", special edition named "Mistério". You were the "voice of science" in it, right? Congratulations on it!! If you ask me, though, the program wasn't really fair, since they had you as the only advocate for science, while several people were advocating the existence of ghosts, curses and similars. You did a great job, but it seemed to me that they portraid science as being some sort of minority... But it was great, how did you get invited for something like that?? Regards, Redux 2 July 2005 03:06 (UTC)

Hi, Redux, thanks. In my opinion it was an inglorious, but needed presence. I was chosen as a kind of an official excuse of the Globo TV (the producer of Linha Direta), like: "we have produced this hideous and slanted program, but, see: we have the other side, too". So, they will not get me again. And you are right: we are a minority. A recent poll in Brazil has shown that more than 90% of the population believes more in the existence of soul and after-death than in science. I am frequently invited because I am the president of the Brazilian Society of Skeptics and Rationalists [5], with 282 members, and a very active discussion list [6]]. It' fun! User:Rsabbatini 2 July 2005 22:02 (UTC)
Hi again. You're right, and what intregues me the most is how a country that is 90% Christian, about 82% Catholic has such a firm collective belief in the existence of ghosts, curses and similars. It's point to syncretism... I checked out the website you indicated, had no idea that it existed. Quite interesting. About the program, when I saw the teaser for it, I thought that they were going to discuss the stuff that happened in the fire of Joelma, what went wrong, how unprepared the firefighters were, the difficulties to identify the victims, etc. I did not imagine that they would ramble on about ghosts, haunted offices and mediunic activity (they may be running out of subjects, since ghosts appear to have become the number one topic for the monthly special of the program...).<br>On a somewhat related topic (but not really), I've nominated Chagas disease to be featured. If you have some time, check out the comments page. It's not always fun, people sometimes object an article for some...exaggerated reasons. As the main contributor to that article, your contribution would be priceless to get the article featured. Regards, Redux 3 July 2005 03:47 (UTC)
Thanks for the nomination, I agree, that would be my first featured article (there is another one I like very much, which is Adverse effect (medicine)). I've tried to improve on the Chagas disease article, please check on the results and tell me whether we have accomplished what the other users desired. Bom domingo! User:Rsabbatini
Hi again. The nomination seems to be going well. Apparently, the main objection still standing refers to an alleged need to improve the English language in the article. I see that efforts are already underway to get it resolved. In my humble opinion, the language seemed fine from the beginning, but when it comes to featuring an article, there's always some little thing... I shall see what I can do to expedite this process even more. I'm quite satisfied that my early intervention seccured the support of MgM, who had at first abstained from casting a direct vote. I'm really confident that we will get this one! Once this is finished, we can see about the Adverse effect article you mentioned. It's better to take one at a time, so we can focus our efforts on the immediate goal. Até breve, Redux 7 July 2005 01:11 (UTC)

Hi. It looks like the article has been featured! The only footnote is that the discussion subpage hasn't been closed, so I'm trying to sort that out, but it looks like it's done! It has even been added to WP:FA, the official listing.
Now, if Sabbatini will indulge me, it looks like Igor posted in this subheader directed to me, so I would like to answer, even if Sabbatini's talk page would not be the suitable venue for me to address this. I am already a member of the Pt wiki. I have, however, temporarily withdrawn because the admins, in a relatively small community of regular contributors, are making it rather difficult for others to contribute properly. That is, of course, my humble opinion. I have not left for good, I'm just taking a break, until it becomes workable over there again. Redux 8 July 2005 01:58 (UTC)

[edit] Gordon Zubrod

Hi Renato, I've written an outline for Gordon Zubrod, but there's obviously a lot more to write on this eminent fellow. Do you have access to more biographical info. Do you know why the ECOG performance status is called after him, despite him not having contributed to the 1982 paper? JFW | T@lk 10:52, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

Hello Wolff, I have completed with some additional information, but this guy has really hard to find info in the commonly available online sources. But not so bad as Robin Coombs. Could you help me with this one? Regarding ECOG's assessment tool, I don't know. Everyone in the field assumes that he was the leader. User:Rsabbatini 14 July 2005.

[edit] Mobile phone radiation and health

I saw your edits to this article. I posted a comment on the talk page a while ago about the existence of well-established non-thermal effects, I wonder if you can respond to that? Overall, I feel that the article is strongly POV because it is entirely written from the perspective that any concerns are completely unfounded. That is not the case. While there may be no convincing epidemiological studies, there are lots of in-vitro and animal-model studies which show significant physiological effects, some potentially harmful, from fields similar in frequency and modulation, and and as weak as or weaker than, cell-phone fields. These effects are conclusively established to be nonthermal, contrary to what is prominently claimed in this article. I would like to work with you to bring this article to some sort of NPOV state. I guess I can write for the opposite POV and you can check my edits and make sure I don't go too far. ObsidianOrder 00:14, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

Yes, please go ahead with this. My approach in writing and editing is maintaining neutrality. It is a very extensive literature and very, very controversial and hard to summarize, because you must review also all the failures to duplicate and the negative results with the same experimental conditions. I wonder if you will do a better job than WHO's special committe on this, whose results I have used throughout the article. BTW, I am specialized in this subject and frequently invited to speak about it to frightened communities around Latin America. I am just departing to Ecuador by the end of the month for a tour to 6 cities, lecturing on the subject of this article. Best regards, User:Rsabbatini, 14 July 2005.
Thanks. I went through and fixed some of the wording, have a look. I tried to do it as a series of small edits with an explanation of each one in the comment. I also posted a todo in the talk page. I also specialize in this, I guess I have a slightly different perspective since I mostly work with cellular-level experimental models. I don't think the existence of non-thermal effects is controversial in itself (as it happens I do have a library of ~2000 journal articles on that exact topic) but only whether (and when) they pose a real health risk. I think the difference between the very dramatic effects that are seen in simple in-vitro systems and the mild responses on the level of the whole organism are basically due to the fact that orgianisms have pretty robust homeostasis mechanisms. Weak EM fields (usually) act like a generic stressor, but that can interact with other things in interesting ways. ObsidianOrder 05:34, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
Very nice to know that about you. Welcome aboard! I essentially agree with you regarding the robustness of homeostatic and immune systems. Every day we get probably hundreds of thousands of new damaged cells in our skin, blood, etc., due to extrinsic factors such as UV radiation, chemical carcinogenesis, etc. Fortunately our defense systems get rid of it all the time. But only 30% of all people take any precautionary measures against the sun, and less than 1% will stop eating their daily ration of chemicals in foodstuff or quit smoking, right? So scientists must be socially responsible and do not make a scare out of a very, very, very marginal non-thermal effect which does not even remotely, by several orders of magnitude, approach other risks we are subject to and eagerly accept it. Everything revolves around risk acceptance by the public, do you agree? We are talking here not about objective, neutral, rigorous science. This should be let to science periodicals. We are talking about public understanding of science (another specialization area of mine, I wrote that article too). Health concerns about cellphone radiation is a very interesting case for public understanding of science. I see Wikipedia as a public layman's encyclopedia, not a specialized textbook. Best regards. Renato M.E. Sabbatini.
Well, I understand your point, but I'm gonna have to disagree with you. I think EM fields are somewhat similar to where smoking was in the 50's - it was "generally regarded as safe" and very common but there were a few people who were doing work that impled that perhaps it was not really safe. Well, let's just say they were not treated well. Similarly, the people who started showing strong effects of EM fields at levels as low as 1mW/cm^2 in the 70's and 80's were not treated well either (Robert Becker, for example). I should hope we are beyond that point now, but not yet close to the point where everyone knows about and understands the risks. I might mention that there is no level of EM fields you can point to and say "this is too low to have any biological effects" (and is therefore completely safe), since effects have been shown all the way down to 10-16 W/cm^2, and there are plenty of cases in which biological systems detect single quanta of EM radiation. I don't see my job as getting the public to accept any particular risks or adopt new technology. I'm happy to simply provide accurate information in a reasonably accessible but not dumbed-down form, and let everyone decide for themselves. Also I don't see such a clear distinction between scientist and "layman" since everyone is a specialist in at least one field, and they can learn about other fields as they need (I know of "laymen", for example, who are more knowledgeable than any medical doctor but only about one specific disease that someone in their family has). You're right, Wikipedia is definitely not a specialized textbook, but it can start as a "layman's" (I would rather say "general-purpose") encyclopedia and sort of go halfway - ideally, perhaps, reading a textbook should be possible after perusing the relevant article. You say it's "not about objective, neutral, rigorous science" - what else, if not that? ObsidianOrder 21:28, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Charles Darwin's illness

Firstly well done on contributing lots to Charles Darwin's illness a few days ago. However, Creationist (talk · contribs), the site of whose very name gives me the jumps, has been having a go at editing Charles Darwin's illness. Quite what he has done [7] is beyond casual examination, though he does seem to genuinely want to contribte and follow NPOV. However it requires I think some peer review by your dear self. Dunc| 21:39, 18 July 2005 (UTC)

It really spoiled the article with bad editing, redundant citations, typographical errors and slightly biased toward the psycho hypotheses. It caused me a lot of work to put it back in a reasonable shape again. I hope I did my best. Thanks for the kudo and the tip. User:Rsabbatini. 18 July 2005.

[edit] Image:Guanabara-bay.jpg

Image:Guanabara-bay.jpg has no information on its source. It will be deleted if source is not specified on its description page. Click the above link to reach the description page.

(SEWilco 17:05, 4 August 2005 (UTC))

[edit] César Lattes

Small question. I notice that in your (excellent) write-up of César Lattes you describe Lattes as the son of "Italian Jewish immigrants". I was wondering what your sources for this are, and if you have any more details. The Italian Jewish community has always been very small (under 50,000 people), but has generated some other successful academics, so I would be very interested to find out if this is true.

I found one site in English that includes Lattes in a list of Brazilian Jews, but such lists often contain mistakes. I also found that 'Lattes' can be an Italian Sephardic Jewish surname. However, I couldn't find anything more concrete in either English or Portuguese.

Many thanks, Udzu 15:12, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

Having dug around a bit more, it appears that Lattes has a Jewish paternal grandfather, but no more ("Já o meu pai era filho de casamento misto de judeu com católica e livre-pensador." - [8]). However, he does seem to partly identify as Jewish ("Questionado sobre sua religião, Lattes se disse ao mesmo tempo católico apostólico romano, muçulmano e cristão ortodoxo - mas principalmente judeu." - [9]) -Udzu
Thanks for clarifyng the matter. Practically all Lattes' biographies list him as having a Jewish line in his ancestry. Of course, he was no practicant. --R.Sabbatini 13:41, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your autobiographical entry

Purely as a matter of form, I have nominated your own entry for AFD. I wish to emphasize that this is no disparagement of you; I know nothing of you, or your field, and will happily admit as much. I only have nominated because I am firm believer in Wikipedia's guideline against autobiographies, and yours has apparently never faced review. I believe every article that is substantially autobiographical ought to remain only with the consensus of the community. An unreviewed autobiography is a dangerous thing in a neutral encyclopedia. I don't search out autobiographies, but I will nominate one that has not previously been nominated if I happen across it.

Actually, I fully expect your article to remain, and will be happy if it does. As I say, this is for the sake of form. If the article has been nominated for afd/vfd before, I apologize, but such was not indicated on the discussion page (a failure that would ultimately be the fault of the old closing administrator. [edit] Carlos Chagas Filho

Senhor Sabbatini: In your recent addition of Carlos Chagas Filho to the List of neuroscientists you alphabetized him by "Chagas" rather than "Filho". Is this appropriate for Brazilian names? Semiconscioustalk 20:35, 12 February 2006 (UTC):Yes, it is correct, of course. Chagas is the surname, and Filho means Junior in Portuguese. So, I gather that putting all Juniors in the J letter is as wrong as putting all Filhos in the F letter. By the way, two other endnames, Sobrinho (nephew) and Neto (grandson) are also used in Portuguese and they should not be used for alphabetizing, either. Best regards. --200.213.105.34 14:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC):Yes, Filho means Son or Junior, in Portuguese. So it should not be used for alphabetizing. Sobrinho (nephew) and Neto (grandson) are also used in the same way in Brazilian and Portuguese surnames. I will write an article on that. Thanks. --200.213.105.34 15:07, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Renato9.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Renato9.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

-- Fernando S. Aldado 03:48, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Olá, Renato. Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Al-kindi.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). [edit] Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize and Moro Islamic Liberation Front

You recently added the Moro Islamic Liberation Front article to the winners of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize category. Just to inform you, it was the Moro National Liberation Front who won the prize, not the MILF. The MILF are a group who separated from the MNLF in the 1980s since the MNLF was considered too weak and was trying to make peace. The MILF are a fairly violent group listed as a terrorist organisation in many countries and are unlikely to be winning any peace prizes in the near future. I went ahead and moved the category link to the MNLF article, but just thought I'd let you know about the difference between the two groups in case you're thinking of doing any further work on the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize. --Daduzi talk 21:45, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

As the author of this page - how notable is this winery? I don't get a lot of Google hits on it, and I'm afraid that looking at the article, it read a little like an advertisement. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Cosmo-homepage.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cosmo-homepage.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

[edit] Bothropic venom

Hi, Dr. Sabbatini! This year I've been quite busy writing, rewriting and generally ordering everything in the Viperidae section. Today I was working on the Bothrops article when I discovered that you added the venom section to it back in December 2004. It looks very nice and all, but unfortunately it has no reference(s), which is very important to me. I know it's been almost two years since you wrote it, but can you perhaps remember where this information comes from and supply me with one or more references? Thanks! --Jwinius 03:03, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

No idea anymore? --Jwinius 18:28, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Butantan-institute.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Butantan-institute.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- ccwaters 20:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About Carbonari

I did dare to formulate the doubt about Carbonari coz by simply reasoning, before reading the Carbonari-data, one realized that this person only was a politician. Very surely there isn't any evidence of some real work on math on his behalf. But sure his political friend will proctect them selves

Sorry to be too bitter, but we latin-americans are tyred of the abuse of pseudo-intellectuals that only spoil his own peoples...

That's OK. Dr Carbonari is not a politician, he is dean of one of the largest Brazilian universities, an educator, and a community leader. He is very influential, has received several awards. If you took care to read his resume, his degrees are in mathematical education. So, he has not contributed to mathematics per se, but this is not an obstacle for his inclusion. --R.Sabbatini 18:12, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Monumentbandeirantes.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:Monumentbandeirantes.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Untagged image

An image you uploaded, Image:Crest-FMRP.jpg, was tagged with the coatofarms copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as seal. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:18, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zizi Possi

I have added a "prod" template to the article Zizi Possi, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. 172.129.204.135 20:56, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Guido mantega.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Guido mantega.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:01, 15 February 2007 (UTC). I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. [edit] License tagging for Image:Noticiaja-cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Noticiaja-cover.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Logo ceitec.gif

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo ceitec.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:33, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spam in Soumodip Sarkar

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Soumodip Sarkar, by Dgg116 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Soumodip Sarkar is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Soumodip Sarkar, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Soumodip Sarkar itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:21, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Aristides_leao.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Aristides_leao.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. [edit] List of 1001 Books

What is this rationale for this random list? WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. If you can't provide a convincing reason for this article's existence I will put it up for deletion. Hu 08:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Not at all, it is the list of books represented in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die (ISBN 0-7893-1370-7), a literary reference book compiled by over one hundred literary critics worldwide and edited by Peter Boxall. It was a work in progress, so you were really fast, eh?? :-) See the article again to see the proper justification. Best regards. --R.Sabbatini 12:16, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I deleted it as a copyright violation. The list is copyrighted and can't be used in its entirety on Wikipedia. Garion96 (talk) 12:25, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, Garion96, but it seems that lists of anything such as books or references are not copyrighteable, because they are not original works per se. See a discussion here. Please reinstate the list or I will do it myself. --R.Sabbatini 20:49, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Walter-salles.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Walter-salles.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:James-paget.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:James-paget.jpg.

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Cotuca-unicamp.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Cotuca-unicamp.jpg.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Logo sbfis.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo sbfis.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Convulsive therapy

Hi,

I notice you've edited the convulsive therapy article in the past. Currently it has numerous fact tags dating back to June/July of this year, and without the unverified facts there isn't much of an article left. If you know of any appropriate sources, I wonder if you could add them? If not, I'm going to propose the article for deletion. Thanks. Nmg20 17:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:O Ano Em Que Meus Pais Sairam De Ferias poster2006.jpg. [edit] Fratelli Endrizzi Wineries

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fratelli Endrizzi Wineries, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add db-author to the top of Fratelli Endrizzi Wineries. AgneCheese/Wine 14:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

If there are any independent third party sources to establish any notability for the winery apart from "just being a winery", please consider adding them to the article and removing the prod tag. Feel free to look reference the essay WP:WINEGUIDE for more details about establishing notability of wineries. AgneCheese/Wine 14:22, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Linear-accelerator.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Linear-accelerator.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add , without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. [edit] Image:Logo-edumed.gif

I have tagged Image:Logo-edumed.gif as no rationale, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 15:52, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Sbis-logo.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sbis-logo.gif.

Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 22:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Villegaignon-fortress.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Villegaignon-fortress.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Anrie (talk) 16:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Logo-unianhanguera.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Logo-unianhanguera.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Alfredo taunay.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Alfredo taunay.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Sdrtirs (talk) 19:17, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Charles-bell.jpg

Would you mind moving this to Commons? It can be combined with the other image on the page in a new page/category. Richard001 (talk) 04:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

My error, it has already been moved there by someone else (see Image:CharlesBell001.jpg and commons:Charles Bell). They just neglected to add a 'moved to Commons' note here.
Please ensure any future uploads go to Commons though. Also, you haven't provided any source information at all (though judging from above this might not be the first time) - if you could add where you got the image it would help (and avoid deletion).
Oh, and you might want to archive you talk page - it's horrendously long! Thanks. Richard001 (talk) 05:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
