[edit] Summary

Typical examples of recurrence plots (from left to right): homogenous RP without diagonal line structures, caused by noise; periodic RP with long diagonal lines, caused by a periodic process; chaotic RP with single dots and longer diagonal lines, caused by a chaotic process (logistic map), additionally a drift is added which causes a paling of the RP; disrupted RP with extended areas of recurrence points (black points), caused by an auto-regressive process.
