Royal is a village in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The population was 279 at the 2000 census.

Royal is located at 40°11′36″N, 87°58′23″W (40.193408, -87.973189)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 279 people, 128 households, and 81 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,239.9 people per square mile (468.4/km²). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 591.1/sq mi (223.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.

There were 128 households out of which 24.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 32.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.78.

In the village the population was spread out with 19.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $47,188, and the median income for a family was $60,833. Males had a median income of $39,167 versus $26,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $22,019. None of the families and 0.6% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 3.8% of those over 64.
