[edit] Establishment

Roy J. Wasson High School was established in 1959 and named after one of the longtime superintendents of Colorado Springs School District 11. Wasson is the only high school in District 11 on a modified block schedule. Students in the 9th and 10th grades attend classes on a seven period schedule. Upperclassmen may have a combination of blocked (95 minute classes) and unblocked (50 minute classes). This flexibility in scheduling allows for students to earn more credits than most high schools on a traditional schedule. The 28.2 acre (11.4 hectare) campus has a diverse population of students.

Wasson is a comprehensive high school which has been recognized at the state and national level as a school on the forefront of educational reform and innovation. Wasson is also the only high school in District 11 with a dance studio. Wasson's technology wing contains a one-of-a-kind multimedia classroom, a video production room, a professional quality audio recording studio, a 25 station CAD lab, a science technology lab, and a music lab with 20 computers equipped with Midi keyboards. In addition to the technology wing Wasson has 8 computer labs used by teachers in all content areas and also computers in the classrooms.

In the 2004-2005 school year teacher Gwen Cardozo was arrested for having sexual relations with a student[1].
